Need some ideas for lesson plans to teach a 3 year old class. Help!!!

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

3 year olds can be fun. Some general lesson plan themes:

The 5 Senses
Me and my body
How things work
Colors (of course) I like baby einstien for this one
Seasons

These may have already been on your list. Here is a Mahalo page just full of Preschool Teacher Resources
http://www.mahalo.com/preschool-teacher-resources

I hope you can find what you are looking for there. There are books, plans, online sources, etc.

Most of all Have fun

http://www.dltk-kids.com/

I forgot here is another site I've used. This one however is Craft based though. But once again it has some themes/ideas you can use (or jump off from) as well as free printables. As we know, using crafts to teach ideas also gives the child some practice with fine motor skills

my pleasure. I have used this page for many lessons/themes myself. Good stuff and good one stop shop to build themed lessons.

I have the dltk website bookmarked on my computer already. I refer to it all the time for ideas for projects.

I don't know why but lesson themes keep popping up in my head so I thought I would add them.

Fun at the Zoo (zoo animals {letters, sounds} animals from other parts of the world, FIELDTRIP)

Down on the Farm (farm animals {letters, sounds}, where we get our food, plants & Animals, living in the city vs. living in the country, FIELDTRIP)

Oceans & Beaches (water, sand, boats, animals, textures)

And you don't have to go to deep into these topics for 3 year olds. just simple activities go a very long way with them.

Science project....But heavy cream into baby food jars with lids 1/2 full, let them shake....turns into butter, remove skimmed milk, let them spread on bread with plastic knife. talk about the cow, milking, etc....

There is an older book if you can ever find
"The Everything Book" that has 1000 lesson plans.

Try popscicle crafts on a sheet on the floor~

Try coffee filter art - snowflakes plain or dip the edges in food color

Oh, there are so many fun things you can do! I've worked with pre-school kids a little, and I loved it. Here are a few ideas:

1. Learn shapes by doing the Shape Hokey Pokey!
http://www.atozteacherstuff.com/pages/408.shtml

2. Teach the concept of "big or little" using this great lesson plan:
http://www.eduplace.com/rdg/gen_act/large/whatbig.html

3. Learn or Practice Counting with M & M's or Gummi bears:
http://www.atozteacherstuff.com/pages/231.shtml

4. Practice counting to 10 or 20 by making a Cheerios or Fruit Loop necklace!
http://www.atozteacherstuff.com/pages/208.shtml

5. How am I feeling? Read any book that has something to do with feelings. One of my faves is Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Discuss different basic feelings with the kids (happy, sad, angry, excited, etc.), and talk about how Alexander was feeling.

Then, give each child 3 paper plates for them to draw a face with a certain feeling (happy works the best).

6. The Letter Dance (to help reinforce the alphabet)
http://atozteacherstuff.com/pages/229.shtml

7. March Around the Alphabet!
http://atozteacherstuff.com/pages/112.shtml

8. Play-Doh Letters...have the kids use play-doh to construct their letters.

Have calender time where you go over numbers, days, weather, and attendance.

Have coloring/art project time where the kids can color and make simple arts and crafts.

Depending on their level, you could probably teach letters and numbers.

3 is very young, so just make sure you have lots of toys, puzzles, and activities you can give them to keep them busy.

There is a great children's book out there called Chicken Cheeks. It's by Michael Ian Black. I know a kindergarten teacher who brought it in, and the class loved it. If you are teaching really small kids than this website could help you out. www.first-school.ws/themes.html

Teach them about money...It will keep them interested. Teach them about currency values ..and it can also teach some rudimentary addition and subtraction
