Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Try booting into AHT(Apple Hardware Test) Mode by pressing D during startup with the install DVD in the slot. This test should give you a good idea if the hardware was damaged. It is possible that a power fluctuation could have damaged internal components. That may be why you can't boot to dvd. If you have a Linux LiveCD handy you could try booting that as a test of the superdrive. Also if you have another Mac and a firewire 400 cable, you could try holding T during boot to boot into target disk mode. In this case you use Mac #2 to run disk utility and format the startup drive. Then try cd booting again.
You maight also try resetting the System management controller detailed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543.

If you've tried everything, you could just take it your local apple store, and they'll fix it for cheap if it's a minor issue.
