Should the NBA Goaltending rule be changed?

The committee also debated whether it should change the goaltending rule to make it consistent with FIBA’s rule for international competition, in which the ball is in play and may be swatted, rebounded, or dunked once it touches the rim. In the NBA, players cannot touch the ball until it comes off the rim on its own. The matter was discussed, with some members favoring a change because it would make for exciting play and eliminate extremely difficult basket interference calls for officials. But there was no consensus, as committee members opposing it worried that it would be too drastic a change and might reduce scoring.

I don't believe it should be changed, as it was created for a good reason. There would be too many players pushing the ball in the hoop, and who the basket be assigned to? I also believe it would reduce the score of the game as so many players would be concerned about swatting the ball off the rim, and it would make the game not the same.

I think that it would be best for the NBA to change the rules. FIrst of all, if the old rules are kept there are calls that are going to be nigh on impossible to call, which could lead to dispute in close games between teams. Also, it would make it a lot easier for US teams to compete internationally (like at the US olympics) with the different rules if they are the same in the US.
