Name of 80s movie featuring the Simon game?

A boy plays the electronic 80's simon game until he beats it. When he beats it, a portal opens up in his bedroom and he walks through it. The movie ends with his parents left in the bedroom and they have to beat it to follow him. Someone else was looking for the answer too but no one answered it

This could also be a made for TV movie. I seared all of imdb.com plot summaries and keywords. I can't freaking find this movie / tv show. My friend remembers it too, just can't remember the name.

I know this doesn't answer the question but maybe it will help some. I was born in 76 and don't remember it.. So I asked my brother, born in 73 and he said he doesn't either... but I did find this

-quote-

Anyone else remember what I think was a short film from the late 1970s or early 1980s involving a child playing this game (under a different name, of course)? The game was actually a means of opening up a portal of some sort after beating the game. The film ended with the kid's father finding out about the true purpose of the game, but being too late to stop his son, so he starts playing the game so he can go wherever his son went. 67.135.49.198 (talk) 17:58, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

This person thinks it was a short film. I thought maybe it was a twilight zone episode. I did some digging and didn't come up with anything there... but I felt I might not have know enough to totally eliminate that possibility.

I honestly searched this question for several hours yesterday and even called my brother, my sister and my best friend.. they even asked their spouses, but they are younger than me and my brother... sorry I couldn't do any better.

in the '80s, there was also "tales from the darkside" and "the outer limits" was remade sometime around the early '90s... both in series format, and similar in vibe to the old twilight zone (except each episode was an hour long). maybe it was on one of those shows?

I looked over the Twilight Zone episode summaries and didn't find one that sounds like this. Great minds think alike!

I currently contacted Mr. Ralph H. the person who first invented and patented the "Simon" game. Unfortunately he does not know any movie that Simon game might be involved in. So, I think it is probably different game not a Simon one.

Are you sure it was an actual movie and not a tv commercial? I seem to recall a commercial that followed that plot, but haven't found anything on a movie. I've even found websites dedicated to the appearance of handheld games in movies, but nada...

After a long research, I found that the following movies/TV Series featured Simon Game:

1. Little Miss Gamer:
2. American Dad, Episode - The One that Got Away
3. Family Guy, Episode - Perfect Castaway
4. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

But alas, no one from 80's.

I am still searching. Thanks

Ok, so after spending almost 2hours trying to find the answer and asking friends and family. I asked my dad and he knows the movie I am describing but not the title. I even called Hasboro and they didn't know either.....I came up with the movie "Tron" which had an electronic game that was being played in the background. What about Poltergiest or The Last Starfight, Whiz kids tv show or maybe on the Wonderful world of Disney. I will do some more research to find this....

I have also seen this movie and don't know what it's from. It was after 1983 definately probably 1985 to early 90's. (I was 3 in 83). The game was Simon but it was called something else. I saw it on tv. The vibe was very amazing stories-like. It might have been an hbo movie. Wonder if there is a listing ofthose somewhere.

I think that's impossible. But you can allow a margin of error, 70s-early 90s

It's a TV movie. Kid walks through a portal at the end and his parents have to beat the Simon game. You really have to have seen it. I've searched a whole weekend on the Internet. No one typed it up on imdb.com or anything. You'll not be able to google it unless you know some serious search-fu skills. Sorry.

I did some serious searching for a while on this. Came up blank. It's a tough one, that's for sure.

I did some mega search-fuing and found nothing! Wow. I even searched through the library of Disney tv movies of the 80s (because it sounds so Disney!). Nothing. This is a tough one! Just so you know, there were people out there trying for you!

Good luck, and PLEASE report back if you figure it out!

I was searching for synopsis of Amazing Stories and Ray Bradbury Theater... and couldn't find a detailed enough synopsis. Some of the descriptions could fit the bill, but were not very detailed. When I read your query, Amazing Stories came to mind… there was another similar show that I can’t recall. More family oriented then Twilight Zone, or Outer Limits. I'll continue the search, and maybe this will help others... Great question, now my brain hurts.

Oh and I looked through the Amazing Stories links and some of them sound really close but I read some more and it's not in there. Maybe that other show you mentioned.

So far Tales of the Darkside, Twilight Zone (1985 series) and Amazing Stories are all really close. They deal with satanic word processors, mysterious alien cardboard boxes. The period is right. If I could just find some other similar shows. I wish TV.com had an API or a better power search (or any power search).

Best attempt yet. I need to find a sci-fi expert. And yes, it's a TV movie. There's the stranger on yahoo that's seen it and my friend who saw it in the 80s too. They were doing a back-to-back show he said so I think it was a made for tv movie.

Was it an HBO movie or something? And I don't think it was actually simon, but something similar. I remember this! I'll ask around and see if anyone knows. It must have been the 1980's because I was born in 1975. We didn't have TV until I was a little older. If I remember correctly, all my brothers were born then and that would make it a 1983 or beyond film. I think. I'll keep looking to see what I can find.

I found a game called fabulous fred and one called touch me. I couldn't find any movies that matched that either. I'll ask my dad if he remembers.
