My Windows XP system is missing convert.exe. Where can I get it?

I would like to convert a USB thumb drive from FAT32 to NTFS. Windows will not let me format it to NTFS. However, guides I've found suggest convert.exe would do the trick.

However, convert.exe is entirely missing from my Windows XP system. Where can I download it (and any associated DLLs)?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Do you have your XP CD?

Look either for a local i386 folder on your PC or on your XP CD for convert.ex_

You will then extract that file from the command line.

1. open up a command prompt window at the location the file is at - the directory its in.

2. in the command prompt type (without the quotes):

"expand convert.EX_ convert.EXE"

3. look in directory and you will see your file

If the file is only on your CD you will need to do something such as:

expand d:\convert.ex_ c:\windows\system32\convert.exe

You should be able to right click on the drive that represents your thumb drive and format it. If not you might have a virus or a U3 drive.

"a U3 smart drive, which is indicated by the U3 logo on the packaging and/or on the smart drive itself"
