My phone number is programmed into someone's auto dial fax machine.

I have been getting a call every two munutes for over four hours from a fax machine. The number is blocked so I have no way to find out where it is comming from. The phone company tells me to repeatedly press keys on the keypad of the phone and the tones will interrupt the fax and it will stop calling me. ( Doesn't work )

Can anyone tell me how to stop these autoredial fax calls?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I hope you have been able to fix this already, but if you haven't, I have found an idea for you.

Now, I am hoping that you are dealing with a land line and you have Win XP around somewhere. I am not sure if this same feature is available in Vista or 7. I am guessing it is, but you will need to check on your own. Anyway, follow the steps at my source and you can set up your computer to receive faxes. With them in hand, or answered, maybe the calls will stop or you can at least contact them back and request them to stop.

Finally, in one of the articles I was reading, an interesting point was brought up. Perhaps you are not hearing faxes. Instead, it could be a failed Wardialing Program or a Dial Up modem with the wrong number programmed into it.

Well, perhaps you know some people who may have a personal fax machine that you can borrow for a few hours to catch the fax. If it is not a fax, then you may have to deal with one of the alternative things I mentioned.

Also, if this is continuing, you might be able to complain at your local law enforcement office. It could be considered harassment or possibly home invasion (I am strictly speculating). If they will help you out, the police might be able to force the phone company to reveal the phone number that is harassing you and put a stop to it.

Finally, if you can maintain your patience and cool when dealing with the phone company, then I would suggest planning a long evening on the phone with their support people. It might take some time, but you may be able to climb their support ladder. The first level of representatives probably can't help you, but you might be able to talk your way to a 3rd or 4th level of support to get better help.

Best answer.
It would have worked except that most new computers no longer have fax cards. I have three and none of them have faxes.

Hi williamwaco,

I suggest you get a call screening enabled on your phone's local numbers provider.

Your number has almost certainly somehow been added to some direct marketing companies fax service.
Generally automated fax messages will retry for a day then give up. But they may wait a day then try again (or a week) - So I recommend you try the full solution below.

Unless you borrow a fax machine you won't find out what the fax is selling. Even if you do most of the faxing companies will not put their contact details on the fax. Unfortunately the company whose product is being advertised on the fax itself will apologize when you call them - but they won't know which direct mail company is calling you - so they can't do anything to stop it either. (but you can make your feelings known).

Regrettably your only solution - sad to say - is to spend hours of your own time on the phone to your phone company. Do not let them hang up on you or fob you off with "sorry - we can't do anything about that". Just remain calm and polite and keep asking for a higher up person when you get stonewalled.
Make a list of all the names of the people you talk to at the phone company. Ask them for their names when you first talk to them and what department they are in (they will try harder).

Ultimately - you will be able to make a nuisance phone call complaint and the phone company will block the caller.
But its going to take all day :-(. Get a book or something - you're going to spend a lot of time on hold.

Years ago - when faxes were all on paper - the ideal revenge was to put a loop of paper into your fax machine (tape the ends of two sheets together into a loop) and write "STOP SENDING ME FAXES" on it.
Then dial them up at night and just keep sending. It wastes huge amounts of paper at their end and none at yours. However these days its all electronic so you are only spending your own money making the call. No revenge for you today - hope for the best...

Your phone has been assigned to a system using call forwarding or call routing. Sad to say, you need to change your number.

This happened to me once, for a whole day and I didn't have a fax machine or a number so I unplugged my phone from the wall over night and used my cellphone to make calls. I didn't get them again the next day when I plugged back in.

What I did was actually received one fax. It was from a marketing company. They had a phone number to call back to stop the faxes.
I am not sure you tried that.
