My pet is gaining weight, should I be worried about animal health problems?

Obesity in pets is becoming an epidemic just as it is with humans. And it can lead to the same health problems in a lot of pets as humans. Obesity happens as a pet ages. They slow down and may not get the exercise they used to. In this case it is definitely worth putting them on a diet food. My dog hated diet food so I just tried controlling the portions of the food he liked. It worked as he lost about 20 pounds. Exercise will also help in controlling weight in pets the same as humans. As long as your pet has no physical limitations there is no reason not to play with them and keep them active. Dogs usually love to go for walks and these can be great for the human counterpart also. There are medical conditions that can cause a pet to gain weight too. A lowthyroid level is one of the most common. A veterinarian can take a simple blood test to find out if that is the culprit. As a pet ages it is best to do whatever is possible to keep their weight down as it can really affect their ability to get around and cause great pain in their joints.
