My pet cat has been leaving droppings in other areas away from the litter box, how do I deal with this behavior?
Is there some sort of special training I have to do?

Cats will go outside their litter box for several reasons. One usual culprit is a dirty litter pan. Even if you clean it once a day, some cats need it cleaned every time there are droppings. One of the automatic litter pans may fix this issue.
Another reason cats will not use their litter box is because the litter may have too much scent in it. Their noses are very sensitive to strong deodorizers and litter with strong smells. If you are using a scented litter or litter deodorizer, try switching to a plain clay litter and see if this fixes the issue.
If you have more than one cat and they share the litter pan, try and add a second pan. Many cats do not like to use it where another cat has already gone. If none of these three fix the issue, it could be medical. There are some male cats that can have urethra issues, like blockage, that can cause this behavior.
