My new Sony Z laptop screen won't turn on. I tried to put it to sleep unsuccessfully, and now the screen won't turn on. Help?

I have a Sony VGN-Z610Y and something kept it from going to sleep. So I opened it back up and the computer is still fully functioning. I can eject the CD drive, adjust volume, and I even heard Skype sign in, but the screen is dark. Monitor detection and screen brightness keys don't do anything, and plugging in an external monitor is not an option. Any suggestions??

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Unless there is some unsaved work open on your laptop, I would try performing a hard reset... just hold the power button for around ten seconds until it shuts down. If your, settings are altered, it may not help, but in similar situations, this has worked for me.

If restarting doesn't fix the problem, it could be that there is a hardware problem, either with the monitor itself: the inverter could be broken or there could be a loose wire or it might be a problem with the motherboard. The only way to find out is to it plug it into a monitor.

I think that somehow you have changed the screen function. Try holding down the function key (fn) and push the screen icon. Often that is f4.
