My MacBook is running slow. How do I run AppleJack to fix it?
From time to time my Apple MacBook gets really slow and sometimes it doesn't even startup. I've researched a couple options online; and I heard that AppleJack might be the best solution for me. The problem is, it seems highly technical to use. Do I need to restart my MacBook in order to get it to work?
Should I also run disk utility that comes bundled as a utility through OSX? Is it possible that AppleJack will damage my MacBook and make the problem worse?

Yeah, this is kind of a complicated process. Apparently it's a good option for troubleshooting because of the variety of tasks you can complete. What it really is, though, is just a program that groups all of your maintenance problems and tasks together to make fixing things more convenient. But the complexities of the system don't make using AppleJack very convenient in my opinion. There's gotta be a better way. If you want to try it out, though, I'll provide you some steps in the most simple form I can put them.
1. Download and install AppleJack
2. Restart your MacBook
3. Listen for the startup sound, then hold "command" "S"
4. Type the word applejack and press enter
5. To run all needed tasks, simply press A
6. After the program is done running, you will be asked to press a key to restart your MacBook again. Do this.
There are other ways you can use AppleJack, but it gets really complicated. For more information on this, check out this site.
There is the slight possibility that this process can damage your file systems a bit. This happens occasionally due to the complete rebooting and clearing out of the computer. I would suggest trying other remedies before going the AppleJack route. Try holding down S when you reboot to start it up in safe mode. This can sometimes clear caches. Alternatively, you can try DiskWarrior from Alsoft which is a really thorough repair tool.
