My husband and I eloped to Vegas this past weekend...

How long do we have to send out announcements letting everyone know we got married? Also, do we have to throw a party so to speek, and if so how long after the actual wedding do we have to do this?

We live in a different state then both of our familes and close friends.
Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Congratulations! This reminds me of my own wedding. We eloped, and told no one. (Hang in there, there's a moral to this story!) We live in a very small community, and have always said there are no secrets in our county. So when we go home, we told one person - his reclusive, stay-at-home gramma.
The next morning, my husband's best friend asked us "What's this about you two getting married?" We had successfully clocked the grapevine! Since then, we've discovered that news travels similarly fast in cities.
The moral of the story is: if you want them to find out from you, or if you think they'll feel slighted that they don't, you'd probably better tell them pretty soon. The world is a much smaller place than it once was!

Wouldn't be surprised if Megastar is too late already. Someone they know might read Mahalo answers.

Take as long as you want; any rules about this kind of thing vary from person to person, and if you decided to elope, you probably don't play by the rules anyway ;-). Enjoy your lives and live at your own pace.

I think they might appreciate you telling them ASAP.
As for a party, well, wait until they have calmed down a bit and give it a few months so everyone has time to organise time off work, etc.
Congratulations, by the way.

You have 2 weeks to send out the announcements, after that you are being rude to the people you call "friends and family".
