Norman Jay was awarded this lowest rank of the British of Chivalry (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for service to music in 2002. This acknowledgement of his accomplishments is probably a matter of pride for the deejay. While it may be an affectation, the title has legitimacy and he is entitled to use it.
