the whos classic version of the song for many reasons will remain the best, as far as authenticity and obvious meaning that the song has for the band. while pear jams version is good, it lacks that certain something of the whos origional.. in my opinion :)

I know The Who is a classic band but I have heard both versions and I have to go with Pearl Jam on this one. They emote more in their version. Both offer amazing instrumentals but I prefer the growl of Eddie Vedder's voice because it gives the feeling of angst better. This is all opinion of course, because the question itself is a bit subjective

Welcome, emac! I think you answered the question yourself, if only you had put a period after "better"! (Bad joke alert.)

Seriously, for some reason, I like it better when Vedder screams. Maybe because he perfected the art of the scream. Daltry's great, but I'll choose Pearl Jam's.

But, how's this for a twist? Heart has been closing shows with it for the past couple of years (yes, they still tour and still sound good). Although this may not be the best quality, check out this from a couple of months ago - I think hearing a female melodically scream it sounds great! Rock on, Wilsons!
