Where online can I find the best historical Music Chart data?

I would love to be able to look up any artist and find their chart history. Any suggestions other then Billboard.com? (they only give 20 years worth of data)

Allmusic.com should have everything you're looking for.

http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&searchlink=ROLLING|STONES&sql=11:aifoxqr5ldje~T5

Here's an example link to the prolific, aforementioned Rolling Stonrs. It records a bunch of charts including the big billboard 200.

I would suggest accessing a library or a libraries website that has been a subscriber to billboard magazine. You can then look through the archives for the years you want.

The Whitburn Project - 120 years. Joel Whitburn is an authority on Billboards music charts, but he is the president of Record Research.

Right, but I am looking for "By Artist" data, so if I want to find the 10 top Rolling Stones chart toppers, I can't do that because they limit the data to the last 20 years.

http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/retrieve_chart_history.do?model.vnuArtistId=5556&model.vnuAlbumId=730724

"This search queries a limited selection of Billboard charts and is limited to 20 years worth of data. For more comprehensive chart data subscribe to Billboard.biz. For complete chart histories, contact Billboard Research."

Thing is, I know I've ran into sites before that have all this data, I just haven't been able to find them recently

There are plenty of sites that will play music and show charts besides Billboard.com. Amazon has a service called SoundUnwound http://www.soundunwound.com which will show you a list of charts like the Internet Movie Database, yet it's exclusively for music. Sometimes you can find music history on wiki sites such as Wikipedia, and there are many places you can find or play music. See below:

Awdio
BeatPort
Deezer
Dizzler
GrooveShark
Jango
Jogli
MeeMix
Mixwit
Musicmesh.net
Musicovery
Pandora
PlanetRadioCity
