Uhhh Jesse and the Rippers from Full House anyone? John Stamos looking absurd in leather and having bandmates with names like 'Viper' is just classic.
Not only that, but the show started with acting like Jesse was the full out, hardcore rocker, yet when Jesse and the Rippers hit it big time, what was their first single? The gem below..can we say fictional band sellouts?

Well in that case, I'm going to have to go with Pugilism and the Third Autistic Cuckoo.
Pugilism (...) was a fake band in Douglas Adams's (author of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy") second Dirk Gently book, "The Long, Dark Tea-Time of the Soul." You never really learned anything about them except the name but dang, that's a good name.

Dr. Fünke's 100% Natural Good Time Family Band Solution: from "Arrested Development." First of all, I love the name of the band, but they also play some good music about team-building drugs...
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band: The album of the same name is better known. It started off as a concept album that had all four Beatles playing a different part (i. e. Ringo Starr became Billy Shears), but the concept of the concept album was ultimately dropped. The fictional band also appears in the "Yellow Submarine" movie as the Beatles's alter-egos.
The Good Ol' Boys: From the Blues Brothers movie. They never actually play in the film, but the members of the band are hilarious. The Blues Brothers band poses as the Good Ol' Boys which leads to the Good Ol' Boys out to get the Blues Brothers.
And the winner is...
William Hung and his Hung Jury: another band from "Arrested Development." They guest star in one episode where Judge Reinhold has a "People's Court"-esque show and William Hung and his Hung Jury is his house band.
You can hear the song they play from the episode here:
(It'll start playing when you open the link, so if you happen to be in a place where you might not want William Hung music spewing from your speakers [like work or the library], beware...)

I would've included the Rutles or the Blues Brothers on my list, but I didn't think they necessarily counted as "fictional" seeing as how they've both released actual albums.

Faith+1 from Southpark for wanting to make sweet love to Jesus.
The All Tom Servo Madrigal Group from Mystery Science Theater for "Air on Delta Knight."
Sonic Death Monkey (formerly known as Kathleen Turner Overdrive" from High Fidelity, just for the names,
and for fake bands that became real bands, the Blues Brothers because anybody can sound badass in a band with Donald Duck Dunn.
