It honestly doesn't surprise me. He has a number of incidents like this in the past 5 or so years. I wonder why MTV even let him in the building, with his track record.
What really bothered me was the look on Taylor Swift's face when he finished his stunt. It's one thing to have an opinion, but I'm betting that last night was the biggest night of her life, being a teenage country singer and winning a VMA. I'm willing to bet that she wont remember it the way she should have been able to.

Whether you think Beyonce should have won or what else ever, it's not right to do something like that.

Completely unacceptable. He should be banned from award shows for doing something like that. He ruined Taylor Swift's moment. Just because you disagree with an award decision doesn't mean you interrupt the winner's acceptance speech by grabbing the microphone and explaining how you thought someone else should have won. Seriously Kanye, what are you thinking?

At least Beyonce had the class to allow Taylor to finish her acceptance speech after she won an award for one of her videos.

Oh my goodness, that was just so rude. There should had been another time and place for his opinion. After watching that video, I felt sorry for her.

I'm not convinced that this was unplanned. Personally I think this was just a way to draw attention to the show. Would we really be talking about Taylor Swift winning the award if Kanye didn't get on stage?

Personally I think Kanye is on to something since Taylor Swift's music is generic.

Kanye is a tool. Someone is up on stage, saying an acceptance speech to an award they deserve, and someone else comes up and basically says that she sucks, and someone else is better.

I'll never buy another Kanye West song again.

Its about respect...

Completely out of line. Imagine what she felt like standing up there in front of that audience after basically being told she didn't deserve that award. What a jerk.

It is unacceptable, and someone that can't have respect for people that win awards, at least while they are excepting it, shouldn't be invited to an awards ceremony.

clearly Taylor's video was better than Beyonce's (I'm not a fan of either) else it wouldn't have been voted as the best? these awards are voted buy the public?

So i think this outburst just shows how much Kanye knows about the music loving public. silly little man

if you look at the people that Kanye has put down over the years you have to wonder if there is a element of racism in his thinking. His behavior over the years show a lack of respect for people and too often people that are of a different race or ethnic group than him.

I have a few views on this:

1) It was rude to Taylor Swift. Her moment was interrupted. I agree with what others have said above. I would feel very embarrassed if not outraged if I was her too.

2) Taylor Swift isn't necessarily unhappy with the outburst. @beast1oh1 mentioned something above about it being planned. I don't think it was, but it sure got the public talking about the fiasco. I don't think people would be talking about Taylor's video otherwise. MTV is loving that.

3) Personally I think that Beyonce had the better video. @goldy I know that they say the awards are voted by the public but how do you know for sure? American Idol is apparently voted by the public too but there is always controversy over these types of votes. Plus all of these awards have become somewhat political if you can call it that. The standards of voting and nominations has declined all over the board from the VMA's to the Oscars. I think that Kanye was just fed up with the corruption and needed to say something. I'm not saying that it was the right thing to do. He should have addressed the issue after the show and I think we would be taking him more seriously if he did.

4) @defolts come on racism? I'm sure he's not the most moral person in the world, and I'm sure he has his stereotypes, but I truly believe that this had nothing to do with skin color.

5) Back to the publicity thing. Taylor Swift is loving the publicity. Beyonce is loving it too for her generosity of letting Swift back on stage to finish the speech. The only one coming out with egg on their face is West, and he just doesn't care he is known for this stuff and the press loves it. This will not impact anyones careers in anyway.

6) @peachbot the reason that MTV let him in the building with his track record is because they WANT something like this to happen. They want the drama and all of that.

Okay thats all I have to say.
Here is an updated video, the above youtube clip is dead.

I think this is just a difference of tastes. Personally I find the Beyonce video more entertaining. Not saying that Swift's wasn't.

Am I just missing something? If you win the Best Video Award shouldn't that by default declare you the winner of the Best Female Video Award?

Or is Best Female more of a second place? I'm kind of confused with the grading?

yes, Racism. if you look at the people he has attacked over the years, there seems to a disproportionate amount that are not black, I cant see him being any different than Joe Wilson. If you look at the people that attack the president you notice based on their history that maybe there is more to it than policy differences http://www.salon.com/opinion/walsh/politics/2009/09/14/obama/ and if you look at who Kanye thinks should have won VS who actually did win, then yes there is a racial bias there.

Kanye West has always been arrogant and rude. He thinks he's soooo worthy that he could say what he wants and expects everyone to listen. Duh? Who is he anyway? He couldn't even sing well.

That type of person shouldn't be idolized. He's not being a good role model for others. If he wanted another artist to win the award, he should've just kept it to himself.

Kanye is guy who has a lot of self esteem problems. He is crazy talented and very accomplished, but he seems very caught up in whether or not he wins the awards, and therefore whether or not he has the acceptance of others. With all the smack talk and arrogance he has, he still is a guy in need of some self-love and acceptance. The sad thing is that he has acted up so much that he is even less likely to get the recognition he so sorely desires in the future, even if his body of work deserves it.

He wasn't saying that he needed the award. He went on stage, while someone else was giving an acceptance speech, to promote someone else. Kanye West's music is not fabulous. It is mediocre at best.
People with self esteem issues do not get up in front of a live audience, on national television, and tell the country they are wrong in awarding someone an award. This guy has an ego the size of Texas, and does not show respect for his peers.

Kanye is my hero. Swift has two songs that are played on the radio every 15 minutes. She is not that good but she is the popular girl. Everyone likes her but if asked they don't really know why other than she is "the popular girl". Wake up people. Beyonce has twice the talent and her video is better. Kanye is not blinded by Swift's popularity and support by the music industry promoters and could not sit still for this nonsense any longer. I applaude you Mr. West. Stand strong, you will find support among the fans. The artist and industry promoters can pound sand.

It doesn't matter if anybody thinks Beyonce's video was better, the point is, Swift won. What if it was the opposite, and Beyonce won, but Kanye gatecrashed and said the same thing, but about Swift deserving it?

Missing the point. The point isnt who's music video is better. Its about being professional. He made himself look like a tool, again, infront of his peers.

He is lucky he isnt an actor, and didn't do that at the Academy Awards... or he'd never act again...

Peachbot; In that case I would disagree with Kanye. I'm not saying that he wasn't rude. I'm saying Beyonce has paid her dues and earned her spot. Swift hasn't earned anything. She is pushed on the public by promoters pushing for her two songs to be played continuously on the radio. Her videos are repeatedly played on country and pop music channels. She is an artist that was discovered and relentlesly promoted to make money just like Billy Ray Cyrus was several years ago. He was incredibly popular with that stupid song "Achey Brakey Heart" until everyone got tired of listening to it over and over again and finally heard the song for what it was. We will just have to wait and see if Swift lasts over time or if she washes out for lack of talent. She wrote cute little songs about high school crushes and her singing abitlity is questionable. Listen to her live performances. They sound like bad karaoke.

jefferyfrancis; My point exactly. If you don't kiss up to the right people and befriend the promter types that are in power, you don't get the airtime to display your talent and you don't get anywhere in the music industry. There are lesser known artists with 10 times the tallent as Swift that don't get the backing and remain virtually unknown. I am not personally a fan of Kanye's music. I just admire him for standing up and calling it for what it is.

I couldn't believe what he did, I'm embarrassed for him. He obviously doesn't think about things before he does them. Also, hes a gay fish.

I am really happy that Beyonce gave Taylor a second chance to remember the night better, Taylor is cool and obviously she did deserve it or else she wouldn't have won.
