Here's "Everyday People" by Sly and the Family Stone. The zooms are so weird and awkward, and constantly zooming on the wrong singer. It's out of focus. Yes, I know someone got this by videotaping their TV, so that adds to the bad.
Great song though

What are some of the best "What the? Was the director drunk?" music videos you've seen?
I've seen my share of bad footage shot by interns and passed off as "art".
I want to know what mainstream artist music videos you've seen that were just so badly shot, you literally had to ask..."What the ----, was the director drunk?"
Link goes to the B-52's LIVE performance at their induction into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, Sept. 2000: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3YqaIxDp_0
I can say two things about this video:
1 - As a director, I would be familiar enough with the talent to know the play list they were going to perform and know the lyrics to the songs. I'd even make sure to sit in during a rehearsal to see who sings which part when.
2 - As a general rule, you show the person singing on the close-up, not the male lead singer standing there looking at the camera.
So, this video qualifies for my "What the? Was the director drunk?" criteria. The first 35 seconds were just full of fail. Late take to the male lead, staying on the male lead when a different singer was singing and the male lead wasn't, staying on the female lead after she's done singing and cutting back to the male lead who wasn't singing.
Anyone else have good examples?

• I think herbal influences were with the director on this one. :)

I kind of wonder when I watch Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice" sometimes... It's still a great video, though. I'm a Christopher Walken fan. Source(s):
