The song "Don't Phunk With My Heart" uses melodies from old Indian songs. Do you know of any other American songs that use others' melodies?

The song "Don't Phunk with my Heart" takes melodies from two 1970s Bollywood/Indian songs ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don%27t_phunk_with_my_heart ). Are there any other popular American songs that have taken melodies from international songs ?

It's interesting you brought this up because just the other day me and my friend where talking about this.

Don't know if you remember but "Jay-Z" put out a song called "The hard knock life" where he completely removes the bass lines and leaves in the old song from the movie annie.

Nice job of providing a complete answer and supporting it with a video. However, it doesn't really answer the question, which asked for "popular American songs that have taken melodies from international songs." The original "Hard Knock Life" is not an international song. It was written and performed by Americans. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annie_(musical)

Calane I didn't see anything specific with regards to internationalization within the question other than "indian", the end of the question however doesn't specifically touch on that.

I'm not clairvoyant ya know ;o) :P
