I always play SGs for a quick jam because they are some of lightest guitars ever and they dont sound bad at all. Though I dont particularly love the shape of the guitar, it makes it easier to play sitting down.
Les Pauls have a better overall sound and much more sustain but they are some of the heaviest guitars. The action on every Les Paul feels very smooth which makes your left hand play very easily. Its not the easiest to play one sitting down but its definitely possible. You just wont be as relaxed.
Obviously, depending on what specs your particular guitar has it will sound very different from others and will vary the cost.
On average, Gibson Les Pauls go for thousands whereas SGs go for hundreds.
Just pick them out in a guitar shop and see which one you like best
Good luck

Pros - killer tone and played great
Cons - can't be fixed if some drunk guy at a party breaks the neck.

Les Paul or SG owners, how do you feel about your guitar? What would you say are the pros and cons?
I am planning to get a new electric guitar, and I know of SGs and Les Pauls because they are famous, but I don't actually know anyone with experience with them. What do you think of your guitar?

My brother owned a white SG. Beautiful guitar and he said that the tone on that sucker was wonderful. One day, at a part, someone sat on the neck and broke it. It was a neck-thru body so incredible hard to fix. My parents had it fixed for him but it would never stay in tune. Pros - killer tone and played great
Cons - can't be fixed if some drunk guy at a party breaks the neck.
