Death metal.. but that's what I listen to anyway. As an example of the awesomeness of death metal...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVWBJHVSrAE
One of my favorites. Not all death metal is just loud noise played in an angry fashion just as not all "gangsta" rap is non-sense about 40's and bitches. I would chose the death metal simply because that's my listening preference, however I encourage every one to listen outside the box sometimes, never know what you'll find that you enjoy.

I have grown up with a full spectrum of music in my life and find that music helps to create a mood. We choose certain songs to help alter our emotions. To relax, scream, sweat and dance, or just smile.
I wouldn't choose a death metal song to meditate to, just like I wouldn't pick a gansta rap song to play while at work (I'm a massage therapist).
Of course if the client brought a CD and requested metal or rap, I would happily play it for them. I did do a massage to Ozzie Ozbourne. I don't think it was as therapeutic for the client... but hey, it's their time. (it's only happened twice in 15 years)
I truly believe that all music has its time and place.
For instance... the music video I posted says it's the worst music video ever, but I haven't had a good laugh like that in a while!

Rather, I use them as base-lines and then mentally add audio tracks in order to flesh them out, and then I listen to the new composition with my inner ear.
Which means... it doesn't really matter... although if I had a choice, it would probably be a tad affected by mood.
If I'm in the mood for rich, ponderous classical music, then I'd choose the room playing death-metal, because it's easy to fill that out with classical music tracks.
And if I'm in the mood for something bouncy, then I'd choose the room playing gangsta-rap, because it's easy to imagine adding traditional European folk lines to gangsta-rap in order to fill it out.
BTW - my favorite for that one is to blend Celtic fiddle and bagpipes in with rap in order to imagine a bunch of kilted red-heads river-dancing around hoods in color-coordinated track suits. Try it, and I bet you like it... and yes I'd do it live but there's not many rappers where I live - lots of east-Asian and south-Asian sounds, but no rap - so if you've got some rap demos in midi then email them and I'll weave in some Celtic tracks and send the composition back so you can hear what I mean. I bet if you could get a good group of rappers and Celtic pipers and fiddlers together the right way it would hit the Apollo with a bang!
The point is... long ago I used to get annoyed at musical genre's that were simplistic and predictable, but then one day I finally grew up and stopped being a whiner, because the obvious finally dawned, which is that if predictable simplicity is making the music feel boring, then the fact that it *is* simple and predictable also means it should be easy to add new lines with musical-imagination and then listen to the new composition with the inner ear.

plus the only thing a girl can do to a rap song is dance like a whore, at a metal show girls have the ability to run in and start running about and throwing down.
Though what would be cool is if there was a middle door with this in it.

If you had to choose, would you listen to Death Metal or Gansta Rap and why?
There are two rooms. In one, a band plays ear-bleed Death Metal. In another, a Gangsta Rap battle is in high gear. You must enter one of the rooms. Which do you choose, and why?

• Thanks for making a solid choice, but then figuring out a way to encourage the reader to be well-rounded when choosing music. Well done!

I would always choose rap and hiphop over something like death metal. I just like the beats and stuff, plus I can never see myself breaking to something like death metal lol. I don't mind listening to it though, or hanging out with people who dig this type of music, but it just isn't my thing.

I would chose death metal...don't get me wrong I do listen to the occasional rap but I find myself liking it less and less lately. It's not he same as 2pac....Death metal makes me feel more alive...it's like it gives me a boost of energy it makes me race :)

Both of those forms of music are so simple that I don't actually listen to them directly per-se... Rather, I use them as base-lines and then mentally add audio tracks in order to flesh them out, and then I listen to the new composition with my inner ear.

Death metal all the way though to tell you the truth I would much rather some grindcore with some pig squeals or something along those lines but I can work with the death metal, I would just run in start a mosh and punch some people in the face, I mean if you ran in and punched someone in the rap room you would probably get shanked, rappers just cant take a punch to the throat like a metal head can. plus the only thing a girl can do to a rap song is dance like a whore, at a metal show girls have the ability to run in and start running about and throwing down.
