Good question.
Well, I'd agree completely with the line:
'don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got 'til its gone...'
This goes for anything of value...
But I think that in the end the planet and the trees will always find a way to grow - pavements crack, grass and plants shoot up and take hold before too long and life finds a way.

I guess it depends on whether you value nature over human achievement, but if you value nature more, then you have to ask yourself the question of whether you would rather live in a first world country like America, or somewhere in Africa where your expected life-span is less than 35 years, if you're so lucky enough to escape the morbid infant-mortality rate!

Dont it always seem to go. That you dont know what youve got. Till its gone. They paved paradise. And put up a parking lot. Do you agree?
An extract from the song Big Yellow Taxi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Yellow_Taxi) by Joni Mitchell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joni_Mitchell).
This has now become an environmental anthem, do you agree with any aspect of this song? or maybe disagree?
Is paradise paved and a parking lot put up instead?
Will we one day be going to tree museums, or are they here already?
Lyrics:
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot
Dont it always seem to go
That you dont know what youve got
Till its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
They took all the trees
Put em in a tree museum
And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see em
Dont it always seem to go
That you dont know what youve got
Till its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
Hey farmer farmer
Put away that d.d.t. now
Give me spots on my apples
But leave me the birds and the bees
Please!
Dont it always seem to go
That you dont know what youve got
Till its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
Late last night
I heard the screen door slam
And a big yellow taxi
Took away my old man
Dont it always seem to go
That you dont know what youve got
Till its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Most certainly not. Think of the achievements that have come from the industrial revolution! Medicine, technology, personal comfort (computers, heating, etc. for most people), ... the list continues!

Haha, don't get me wrong, I love the song. But I also love that in a few years I'm going to be able to go on trips into space on commercial transportation, and see things there that are maybe even more breathtaking than what our nature has to offer. As a side-note of interest, I live in Africa.

I agree, but I hope this is not the case. I think that at one point, the going green movement will make plants and flowerbeds "the style". So hopefully we can share the world with plants and trees and not completely destroy our ecology.

A figurative paradise was paved over a few times in the song "Come Dancing" by The Kinks.

Yes I absolutely agree.... I live in the country.... wild little creatures everywhere.... squirrels, turkeys, quail, raccoons, bears, mountain lions, deer etc., and people move from the city here and before very long they are wanting to kill the dear because they eat their flowers, etc., They get here in the country .... where it is beautiful and peaceful and you can commune in nature... and all they want to do is turn it into the place they just left... they just need to go back where they came from... there are those of us who love our community just the way it is.

I feel it is becomming as such! Everyday we come out with the "latest technology" and you see how each generations we see more and more problems..and people not living as long. Some change is good yes but sometimes it's good to just rely on nature a little more!
