I think Apple WILL offer a subscription-based service...
There have been a number of examples of subscription-based services doing well and making quite a bit of money. I think it is Nokia that offers free subscription-based music with the purchase of their phones. GREAT idea! Instant music!

For starters, Apple doesn't make a lot of money selling music. They want people to enter into their system and that eventually buy ipods. A subscription service would only cost Apple more money in bandwidth cutting further into their profits.
Another reason I don't see this happening is that subscription services always have DRM and Apple has been against DRM from the start. Especially after their most recent announcements it would be a huge shock to see them put limitations back into place.

Do you think Apple will ever offer a subscription-based music service?
The one thing that has prevented me from investing in an iPOD is that lack of a subscription based service, like Rhapsody or Napster. I listen to a lot of music and a subscription fee allows me to discover new music and artists. If Apple would ever offer this I would me right there.
