The Angels of Light are an experimental group that was formed circa 1998 by singer/guitarist Michael Gira after he disbanded Swans, the group he'd founded in 1982. The band has marked a distinctly different style for Gira since he left Swans, most noticeably being musically more melodic and less brutal than his previous efforts. The Angels of Light include many New York City collaborators, including Dana Schechter of Bee and Flower, Kid Congo Powers of The Cramps, Larry Mullins aka Toby Dammit, Bliss Blood of The Moonlighters, Thor Harris of Shearwater, and most recently the Brooklyn band Akron/Family as well as Berlin-based former Swans guitarist Christoph Hahn.
All Angels of Light albums have been released on Michael Gira's label Young God Records.

All Angels of Light albums have been released on Michael Gira's label Young God Records.
Origin of Name:
Before the band was formed, Gira intended to call his post-Swans acoustic/song-based project The Pleasure Seekers. This name was discarded because there had been a group with the same name in the 1960s. The first two live performances of what would become The Angels of Light (the Tonic/Bowery Ballroom benefit shows) were billed as "Michael Gira with guests".
No songs covered.

The Angels of Light is a band formed by Michael Gira following his decision in 1997 to end his previous band, the Swans. Gira's new project was rooted in traditional folk, blues and country; more lyrical, less ritual. There have been many contributors over the years, most famously Devendra Banhart and Akron/Family, but dozens of others have contributed voices, instruments, personalities and ideas. The Angels of Light seems to have wound down and perhaps come to an end as Gira is now working with the band Fire On Fire and Larkin Grimm. Releases:
New Mother - 1999
How I Loved You - 2001
Akron/Family & Angels Of Light - 2005
Everything Is Good Here / Please Come Home - 2005
We Are Him - 2007

This is a good start poindexter, but much of the paragraph directly takes text from other sites, including allmusic.com and answers.com.
If you can revise this to include 100% original text, I can consider you for the best answer.
