If you are using a PC I would suggest using ephPod ( http://www.ephpod.com/ ) and if you would rather use a Mac I would try iLinkPod ( http://www.ilinkpod.com/ )
Step by step, for both options, can be found at my source link

Or use the sync software that came with it.

it will put your entire libary on the computer, plus lets you listen to it with out the ipod plugged in
*edit*
Also there is an option, to manually sync the music to the ipod youself in the ITunes prog, just make sure you change that 1st before plugging in your pod

Your ipod is a device much like a hard drive. It stores data just the same almost. Simply plug it into the a computer USB port and your system should recognize the device. Once that happens you should be able to goto "My Computer and open it up just like any other folder. Or use the sync software that came with it.

- Fact Refuted
Apple places protections that make this response inaccurate. If you do this, you are extremely likely to lose all of the music on that ipod. Please check the other answers for third party solutions.
