MS Word 2003 how to show parallel comments?

I need to be able to have running comments on a document I'm composing or notations. The Comment feature seems to work a lot like the track features tool combined with the footnote engine. Either way I don't care but the problem is I don't want the data or comments visually at the bottom of the page like the Comments feature does. I want side by side comments kind of like the bubble in the margins in track changes. Not nearly needing that graphical but I want side by side notes.
(I'm running MS Word 2003 - no desire to change I need it for what I'm doing)

example:

Needs Work >>> Dear Mr. So-an-So
Check Splling >>>
>>> I writing you to .....

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

When I add Comments to a document they appear on the side with the Track Changes edits.

Try the following with MS Word open:

  1. Open "Tools" from the menu bar
  2. Select "Options"
  3. Click the "Track Changes" tab
  4. In the "Balloons" section of the window, make sure that "Use Balloons (Print and Web Layout):" is set to "Always."

Perhaps your setting is "Never" ??

Also, if you are viewing your document in the "Normal View" you may not see the comment balloons. Try switching to "Print Layout View."

The other possibility is that you are viewing the "Reviewing Pane" at the bottom of the page, which actually isn't part of the document. You can turn this off by clicking the "Reviewing Pane" button on the "Reviewing" toolbar.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.
