Snow White is AT-709 in the Aerne-Thompson classification system of folk and fairy tales. There are no less than nine (9) other similarly classified tales depicting 1) death of innocent maiden protagonist, 2) numerous asexual male protectors, and 3) female antagonist, usually a stepmother, witch and/or ruler. Snow White has several European forms, the German version (penned by Brothers Grimm) noting that Snow White was so named for her "skin white as snow".
