Edward Scissorhands
I loved the contrasts between Edward and the town. I loved how the movie focused on his struggle to be accepted as a "normal" person among people who were far from "normal" themselves. It was almost a cross between Pinocchio, Frankenstein, and The Stepford Wives!

It is really a hard question to answer because there are so many great Tim Burton movies. "Edward Scissorhands" is a very personal movie for Tim Burton since it was based on the isolation and self discovery he experienced growing up in the suburbs of Burbank, CA. The soundtrack by Danny Elfman is awesome too!
"A Nightmare Before Christmas" is definitely a close second which also has a great soundtrack by Danny Elfman and the stop motion is brilliant.

The Nightmare Before Christmas!
I think this is the quintessential Burton flick - it's artistic, moving, and lively. It seems like the culmination of so many of his projects to that point, things like: "Pee Wee's Big Adventure", "Edward Scissorhands", and "Beetlejuice".
And since then it seems like he's been trying to recapture that macabre magic...unsuccessfully, as with movies like: "The Corpse Bride", and "Sweeney Todd".

I personally thought "Beetlejuice" was his best movie (especially early on in his career) Great cast of actors with great visual effects and surreal performances.
