Basically a story about mis-matched characters making their way through weekend detention together. (With a little back-story on the teacher and janitor ..which I think adds to it.) Oh yeah, and did I mention Alley Sheedy?
Edit: Oops! Didn't notice the sub-text in the question. :) I'm gonna go with High School Musical. If you can get past the disney-ness, it's actually quite good. It is what it intends to be, and if you're expecting anything deeper you're forgetting its audience. And pretty much all of the characters are likeable, even the 'bad' ones. ..I also like the way things are overcome at the end without the 'bad' characters being really brought down. They more come around to the others' way of thinking. Nice way of making a cliche concept not quite so cliche.

The Breakfast Club. ..generally not a genre I go out of my way for: the school-centric flick. But I found this one fun. It's probably a bit dated now, but if you like 80's music, I think you'll be able to make your way through it. ..Hopefully not all of my liking for it was just due to Alley Sheedy. ;) Basically a story about mis-matched characters making their way through weekend detention together. I don't know if this counts, but Freaks and Geeks was the greatest school life show ever.
