Which film franchises have produced the most movies?

James Bond is up to 22, and Star Trek is on 11 now.

Are there other major franchises that have produced comparable numbers or even more?

What about from earlier times? (Sherlock Holmes, Abbott & Costello etc)

The Charlie Chan series had 47 entries. Emmanuelle had 56, Hopalong Cassiday had 66, but the Wong Fei Hung series wins at 89.

• Both answers are good. The link in this answer is useful for me to see for myself what some of those big franchises were.

and last but not least there was 10 Shaft movies

So yeah, there are a bunch of huge franchises, most of which kept driving well past their prime. But if you've got a great story and unique characters, the possibilities are boundless I suppose.

Great list.

I guess Tarzan was the Bond or Trek of it's time, something that was part of the culture and everyone knew about it.
