Set in 1978 San Francisco, Hawn plays a quiet librarian who gets innocently dragged into a bizarre plot to assassinate the Pope. Chevy Chase stars as the lead police detective assigned to protecting Hawn. Burgess Meredith plays Hawn's feisty landlord looking out for her well-being. And Dudley Moore plays a sex fiend.
The whole thing is an absurd crime comedy full of great physical humor and quick, snappy dialogue. The characters are hilarious, and the movie is a wild ride. I love it!

What about San Francisco, you ask?
What would a comedic crime movie be without an outrageous chase scene at the end? Just sit back and watch this clip, complete with a tourist couple in a hijacked limo.
(ignore the Mikado theater scenes, the couple is racing to beat the end of the play):

And if you're really lonely for your home, Dudley Moore will keep you company. :)

No fan of Bogart & Bacall should miss this flick.
Don't forget your popcorn, with extra butter...
Dark Passage
Year: 1947
Locations: 1360 Montgomery Street; Golden Gate Bridge; others...
Don't overlook this classic starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.
(It was the third of four films real-life couple Bacall and Bogart made together.)
The best part of the film is the city of San Francisco, which is liberally and vividly employed as the realistic setting for this Warner Bros. film.
Writer-Director Delmar Daves very smartly and effectively used the picturesque streets of San Francisco and its stunning panoramas from the hills to give a dramatic backdrop to his rather incredible yarn.
The movie was released Septemeber 5th 1947.
Enjoy your movie

"The Room is a 2003 independent film written and directed by its star, Tommy Wiseau, who is also credited on screen as both the movie's producer and executive producer. The principal cast includes Wiseau, Juliette Danielle, Greg Sestero, Philip Haldiman, Carolyn Minnott, and Robyn Paris. The Room tells the melodramatic story of a love triangle between a man, his fiancée, and his best friend.
Without any studio support, Wiseau spent over $6 million on production and marketing for the film. Wiseau promotes the film as a black comedy and insists that its humor is actually intentional, although cast members have publicly disputed these claims1 and many audience members generally view the film as a poorly-made drama.23"
It was directed as a serious movie, but the director/lead actor is such a ham that it has turned into a huge cult classic.
"Fans interact with the film in a similar fashion to The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Audience members dress up as their favorite characters, throw plastic spoons at the movie screen (a reference to unexplained framed photos of cutlery often seen in the background), toss footballs to each other from short distances, and yell insulting comments and criticisms about the quality of the film."
I have included the entire Wikipedia article with much more information. Basically, it is DEFINITELY worth a watch. Decide for yourself whether this was intended to be a comedy or whether this was intended to be a drama.
Thanks

What is your favorite movie that is shot on location in the San Francisco Bay Area?
I'm feeling a little home sick today and would like to watch a good movie that has some beautiful shots of San Francisco and/or the Bay Area.
Be warned that I am a film buff and connoisseur, so the movie should be at least half way decent. I don't want to rely on just the scenery to get me through the flick!
My current favorite 3 movies that show the city in a great light are:
*The Game (1997)
*So I Married an Axe Murderer (cheesy, but great shots of SF)
*Vertigo (1958)
So help me add to my library so I won't feel so home sick today!
**please don't list 50 films, but find ones that you've seen, like and want to share... and tell me why?

The Rock with Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery has some great scenery of the San Francisco area including Candlestick, the Golden Gate bridge, and of course, Alcatraz. It's not a great movie by any stretch, but you listed, "So I Married an Axe Murderer," already, so I figured more cheese wouldn't hurt. There are some other great movies filmed in SF, like, "The Pursuit of Happyness," "Zodiac," and "Dirty Hairy," but they don't show the sights of the City very well. "The Game," by the way, is a fantastic flick. Good choice.

I guess I could put up with watching Sean Connery one more time... if I have to! lol
Even though I haven't seen 'So I married...' in a while, I remember the director going out of his way to show some nice street scenes and specifically the Palace of the Legion of Honor. (those things stick in my head)
I'll try 'Zodiak' since I haven't seen it. The reviews don't look half bad!
Thanks!

In fact this was the first and only movie that came to mind when you asked the question. Vertigo is great as well, though.

Although Mrs. Doubtfire is always a strong contender in my book (just kidding!), I think my absolute favorite is Foul Play, starring Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase.

Oh, oh, oh, oh! I'm amending my answer! You also need to rent one more 70s classic comedy!
What's Up Doc? starring Barbara Streisand and Ryan O'Neil - both absolutely hilarious in their roles! And yes, the movie will likely make you a little homesick for San Francisco, especially during the (YES! You guessed it!)...hilarious car chase scene at the end!

@gno! My goodness! I was expecting you to recommend High Anxiety (which I just watched again the other day) starring your good friend Madeline Kahn!
It's been so long since 'Foul Play' that I think I'll give it a try!)

I have to say the movie I love most in San Fran is the Room. It is hysterical, though it is technically a drama/soft core porn.
