In order of greatness.
Batman Dark Knight - http://assets.blogcatalog.com/avatar/usr/180756.gif
Griped me with a feel I haven't had since I was a kid and watched the very first batman film, this movie seriously made me feel like I was 10 years old again.
21 - http://profile.ak.facebook.com/object2/85/12/q6806293649_6723.jpg
Winner winner chicken dinner :P
Very intoxicating film, especially as of late with all the emphases being put on card playing games threw out the country.
Twilight - http://images.funadvice.com/photo/image/57572/tiny/twilight.jpg
Best reason I like this is the fact it threw me completely off and yet i still enjoyed the movie.
007 Quantum of solace
Frankly I just like seeing james bond blown things the f! up.
Iron Man
I was extremely surprised by the amount of work and detail that went into this film to make it match the comic book.
Also was refreshing to see Robert Downey Jr come back to the big big screen.
Jumper
Also another very surprising exciting film that made me think 'what if we could walk threw walls'.
Eagle Eye
Gripping movie from start to finish.
Valkyrie
Probably because I haven't seen it yet :P (Hey you didn't specify)
(If the coming attractions are anything like the movie then I'm keeping this here)
Wanted
Also another very surprising film with excellent special affects, and a wicked cool and humorous surprising ending.
Hancock
While it wasn't as great as the ones above this film brought out the kid in me, I love will smith.
11- Honorable mentions
Rata Tui / Kung Fu Panda
Excellent movies! But didn't make my list because frankly they are cartoons and had a limited release market.
Indiana Jones 4
I think everyone can agree to some point that this movie was terribly disappointing simply do to the fact that Henry Jones Snr did not make a appearance and they distorted the theme, ideal, and spirit of Indiana Jones itself *in a way*
WALL-E / Pineapple Express
Can't comment on these movies because I honestly didn't see them. (But because of the press the received and the amount of work that went into them I believe they deserve a spot on the list)
Clover field
Can't comment either because for some reason I never got the time to go see it. Due to the hype of the movies genre I didn't deem it necessary at the time.

2. Dark Knight - I really respect the acting of most of the cast, couldn't stand the "batman voice" but thoroughly enjoyed it.
3. Iron Man - I know. It's just another one of the comic books made into a film, but come on. It's a badass all american.
4.Wall-E - Pixar does it again, a family friendly film that has a deep undertone about a culture of non-thinkers.
5. Charlie Wilson's War - A good story adapted into a very thrilling movie with real values.
6. There Will Be Blood - I don't think I learned anything and I don't care. I just enjoyed it.
7. Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, how appetizing; add in a few songs and we've got a musical. Film it and its a hit.
8. Quantum of Solace - Wasn't as good as the last one, but Daniel Craig really pulled it together.
9. You Don't Mess With Zohan - Good, funny film with playing off the abrasive middle eastern sects and brining everyone together.
10. No Country For Old Men - Kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

1. The Dark Knight
Hands down, one of the greatest theatrical experiences I've seen. Heath Ledger's performance was nothing short of legendary, and the rest of the cast was solid all around.
2. The Wrestler
This hasn't actually opened in my area yet, but based on numerous early reviews and the trailer, this is going to be a great film.
3. Sweeney Todd
Johnny Depp + Tim Burton = Win as usual. Awesome musical with an awesome adaptation. It helps that Sweeney Todd is my dream role (Yeah, I do the whole musical theatre thing).
4. 21
I go to a tech college right now (not MIT :-( ), and Blackjack is my casino game of choice, so this movie really connected with me. Provides hope for math nerds everywhere that we too can live like rock stars. Excellent performances by Kevin Spacey and Lawrence Fishburne.
5. Iron Man
Very cool, action-packed movie. Pretty much what you'd expect from a good comic-book movie.
6. Zack and Miri Make A Porno
This probably won't make the top 10 list of anyone that has seen more than 10 films this year, but I thought it was hilarious. Kevin Smith + Seth Rogan = good in my book. Plus, it doesn't hurt that Elizabeth Banks is really hot.
7. Bolt
Not my type of film, but like I said, I didn't see many films this year. The story is dumb and predictable like any other children's movie, but the animation is excellent. Even more surprising was discovering in the end credits that it was animated by Walt Disney Animation Studios, not Pixar.

Because it was the best movie of the year. I know there are nay-sayers saying that it probably wouldn't have made as much money as it did if Heath Ledger hadn't died, but I still think it was the best movie of the year. And everybody gave a kick-ass performance in the movie.
2. The Spirit
It comes out Christmas, and I'm expecting it to do really well. I can't wait to see what Frank Miller did with Will Eisner's character.
3. Iron Man
Robert Downey Jr.'s second greatest role of the year. Freaking awesome movie. Second best comic book movie of the year.
4. Incredible Hulk
Edward Norton knocked this performance out of the park. And props to Marvel finally having their own production company. I think that now they have their own production company, that they will make way better Marvel movies in the future.
5. Tropic Thunder
Robert Downey Jr. made this movie. He was the funniest damn person in this movie. And his movie commentary on the dvd was amazing. It was hilarious.
6. Hancock
Will Smith was really great in this movie, but just an ok superhero movie.
7. Pineapple Express
Seth Rogen and James Franco are comic geniuses in this movie. James Franco was hilarious in this movie.
8. Zach and Miri Make A Porno
I think this is Kevin Smith's best movie to date.
9. Cloverfield
Came out and the beginning of the year and I think everybody forgot about it. I thought it was a really good movie and a great idea to shoot a movie.
10. Jumper
Just a really good action movie that came out this year.

1. The Dark Knight - One of the best movies I have seen in recent times. This movies was perfect in all respect - storyline, acting, screenplay, thrill. Heath Ledger would be remembered for his performance forever. This movie has set a very high benchmark for movies to come.
2. Wall-E - A animation movie with emotions, this subject is really hard to make a movie with, but this was made easy in Wall-e. Another great aspect of the movie was very less dialogues, just using the gestures to display emotions was great.
3. Cloverfield - A very good sci-fi movie, today we associate a sci-fi movie with high quality animation where a lot of money is spent of sets. This movie was different, shot with a different camera setting (looked like amateur video style or similar to Bourne Ultimatum) which added to the thrill and fun of the movie.
4. Taken - A very good thriller which was underrated. Taken did not have the new age gadgets, babes or car chase sequences but it was the old style thriller.
5. 21 - A good story along with good performances from Kevin Spacey and Laurence Fishburne. A bit of better screenplay and a bit of pace could have made it perfect.
6. Iron Man - A pure action flick for the superhero lovers, it was a perfect
solution to people complaining about lack of action from Spiderman/Superman movies.
7. Quantum of Solace - Another excellent Bond thriller, a good performance by Daniel Craig. This movie seemed to be a continuation of Casino Royale, it was not as good though. Must watch for Bond movie lovers.
8. Speed Racer - Excellent animation, thriller and a totally new way of story telling.
9. Kung-fu Panda - A different kind of animation movie, over last few years we have animation movies with similar story lines, jokes and it was becoming a routine, but this movie showed the path to next generation animation.
10. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - This movie was good, people did not like it much because of the expectations but definitely deserves to be in top 10.

Sean Penn's portrayal of Harvey Milk, the first openly elected gay official, is both touching and brave. The direction by Gus Van Sant & writing by Dustin Lance Black are more then perfect, they are poignant.
2. The Wrestler
Mickey Rourke gives the performance of a lifetime as an aging wrestler eager for one last shot. A deeply depressing, but endlessly entertaining film that is just as good as "Raging Bull".
3. Slumdog Millionaire
Danny Boyle paints a heartfelt tale that is as much fun as it is moving. After the recent attacks in Mumbai, the film will go on to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
4. The Dark Knight
It's not as good as everyone says it is... it's better. Heath Ledger steals the show and creates an unrealistic goal for any actor who has to play the Joker in future installments.
5. Doubt
Never has a stage-to-screen adaptation been so perfectly executed. Performances by Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman are superb, but Viola Davis as a saddened mother steals the show (it's the writing mostly).
6. Wall-E
Best animated film of the last 10 years. It shares the best elements of all that came before it, and will be ripped off by all those who come after it.
7. Changeling
An overlooked gem by Clint Eastwood. This moving portrayal of a woman in 1920's who goes against the corrupt Los Angeles Police. The cast, writing and direction is all stellar.
8. Synecdoche, New York
Charlie Kaufman's directorial debut is messy, puzzling, long... but brilliant. The performances are top notch and there is enough humor and emotion to give you a terrific experience at the movies... even if it leaves you a bit dumbfounded.
9. Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Woody Allen came back in strong form. The film is extremely warm, with endlessly engaging performances by Javier Bardem & Penelope Cruz.
10. Iron Man
Too much fun to be ignored. Robert Downey Jr. makes one helluva comeback with this star making turn as Tony Stark, a billionaire weapons manufacturer who grows a conscious.

2. [REC]. Spanish horror movie. Very, very scary. A lot of substance in only 80 minutes. The film relies a lot on lighting, sound and camera work to do what it is supposed to do: scare you.
3. The Dark Knight. Boy, that Joker completely was completely twisted. Heath Ledger steals the show.
4. Iron Man. Fun, Fun, Fun. That Ending: fanboy moment of the year.
5. Persepolis. In my opinion a very good tale of growing up.
6. Be kind rewind. Nice insight into making movies. Very creative.
7.Kung Fu Panda. Great animation, fun story, fantastic martial arts choreographies.
8. Speed Racer. I never liked the cartoon, and wasn't expecting anything out of this film, but it was a very, very fun movie.
9. Hellboy II. Just because I believe Guillermo del Toro is a genius (if you like fantasy that is)
10.Mamma Mia. Technically speaking, kind of flawed, but a lot of fun!!!

2. Iron Man - Solid storyline, cool special effects, and great integration of cartoon
3. Forgetting Sarah Marshall - An absolutely hilarious movie
4. Quantum of Solace - Not the best Bond movie, but still very solid
5. 21 - The book was better, but the movie was still great
6. Semi-Pro - Anything with Will Ferrell in it is going to be funny
7. Vantage Point - One of the most interesting concepts for a film
8. Charlie Wilson's War - Probably overhyped, but still good
9. Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - Doesn't meet the standards of previous Indiana Jones movies, but is still worth seeing
10. Pineapple Express - A lot of dumb humor, but still a movie that will keep you laughing

1. The Dark Knight - Simply the best Batman film I've seen as well as Heath Ledger's best performance. You couldn't get a better blend of action, character development, and true hero vs. villain (not to mention hero/villain reversals).
2. Twilight - I've read the series and fell in love with the characters. Catherine Hardwicke's direction was simply superb. She nailed the production. It's quite unfortunate she won't be continuing the rest of the film series.
3. Wall-E - It made me cry. I don't do that in movies, let alone animations. Pixar will always be my production studio hero, and for that, it rises to the top of my list. What a heartwarming story!
4. Speed Racer - People didn't like this movie, but I did because it was so tranquilizing. The extreme vivid imagery swallowed me into the picture. I could not look away for a second. These CGI-intense/over-processed pictures attract me because they are pioneering an uncharted genre. For that, kudos to the filmmakers.
5. Baby Mama - Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are a comedy dream team in my eyes. Need I say more?
6. Iron Man - One of the best comic book films I've seen in quite a long time. I loved the action, loved Robert Downy Jr., loved the character. I've already got it on Blu-ray.
7. Wanted - After Iron Man, I think this is the next best action film of the year. Can't say no to Angelina Jolie, and the unique story took me in. I kept saying, "oh, man!" and "ahhh, whoa!" during this movie. Besides laughter, I don't produce audible emotions. Points for them for getting exclamations out of me.
8. Burn After Reading - I've always appreciated and admired co-direction in films. The Coen Brothers have done it again, and while many people didn't understand this film, I found it quite genius. Dark comedies are extremely hard to pull off, and for the Coens to be coming off the No Country for Old Men high, they're troopers for getting this one out in such a timely manner.
9. Horton Hears a Who! - You can't deny Dr. Seuss. His story coming to life on the screen was simply magical.
10. Sex and the City - I've followed the television series and believe they did they best job on recapping enough material for new SATC viewers to follow the film. While it felt like it was a bunch of episodes strung together, it still felt like the good ol' days, and I appreciated that decision.

1. The Dark Knight - $530,540,885
2. Iron Man - $318,298,180
3. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - $317,011,114
4. Hancock - $227,946,274
5. WALL·E - $223,704,223
6. Kung Fu Panda - $215,395,021
7. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa - $165,653,852
8. Horton Hears a Who! - $154,529,187
9. Sex and the City - $152,637,269
10. Quantum of Solace - $151,620,134
As far as my personal 'best' list, it goes as follows
1. The Dark Knight - Heath Ledger, need I say more? The movie had drama, action, romance, and the best portrayal of The Joker in history.
2. Wall-E - It appears to me that it was a test of the storyteller. One of my favorite television programs is Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In season four, Joss received a comment that the best part of his show was the dialogue. His response: "Let's make an episode with no dialogue." It was a test of his storytelling abilities. That's what Wall-E did. It forced the audience to actually use our imaginations to complete the "missing" parts of the story. Wall-E is, in all honesty, one of the best movies ever made in my opinion.
3. Iron-Man - One of the best big screen adaptations of a comic book. The story was almost spot-on with the canon set in the comics (I'm a comic geek, so I do realize there were some novel changes, but I can understand why they were made, cinema is different format and the story needs to be adjusted accordingly at times). The choice in actors was superb. Again, one of my favorite movies.
4. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist - This is my kind of movie. It's a classic story that almost anyone can relate to. We've all experienced the all-night adventures of chasing something with a group of friends and having the best experience of our lives. But let's face it, the story isn't anything new. The best part of this movie is the score. The music that was chosen by the producers was simply amazing. I'm not one to buy soundtracks of movies (I just buy the artists' albums), but I purchased this one and there is not one song I dislike. (Ottoman by Vampire Weekend is my favorite -- maybe.)
5. Vantage Point - I think the cinematography of this film was extremely unique. For a while after watching it, I went back and forth in deciding if I loved the storytelling format or if I hated it. I decided that I loved it. You never get the complete story until you see each 'vantage point.' It is refreshing to watch a movie where you can't really guess what is going to happen. The storytelling was not in a linear format, and it took a while to get into the flow, but you do, you love it -- you begin playing "detective," looking for clues as to what is actually going on.
6. 21 - I may be the only one to have enjoyed this movie. I never read the book, so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but I found the mix of action, drama, romance, and just the overall story to be quite well done. The moral of the story is a good one, too: appreciate what you have and you'll go far. If you do mess up, don't regret it, but use the lessons you learned to your advantage. Just as the main character used this experience to earn a scholarship so he could attain his dreams.
7. Quantum of Solace - Bond. James Bond. Need I say more? Yes, Casino Royale was much better, but you can't beat a well-told Bond story. Not to mention the technology featured in the movie. I found myself drooling over the tech found in the MI6 HQ.
8. Cloverfield - It's the American Godzilla. The whole story was told extremely well. I loved the idea of everything being documented by a standard camera (although at times, I'll admit that it didn't make sense for the guy to continue carrying the camera). The movie was the great. You get this intense build-up and curiosity as to what this monster is and you are completely satisfied at the end.
9. Sweeney Todd - I'll admit that I'm not the biggest fan of musicals. They have to be done right for me to enjoy them and most just aren't. I'm also not a huge fan of Johnny Depp. So I was expecting the worst when a few friends dragged me to see this movie. I mean, it's a musical, it has Depp in it, and Johnny Depp is singing. It looked incredibly cheesy and, quite frankly, a waste of money to see it; but I went. I was incredibly surprised when I walked out of the theater. The story was great, the acting was great, the overall design of the film was great (the DP deserves a major award for the set design!). It was dark, funny, and ended with a bit of dramatic irony. The story seems very Shakespearean to me.
10. Jumper - Again, I'm probably the only one who enjoyed this movie. The book is WAY better (it's been one of my favorites since high school), but I can appreciate the story being told in the movie. If you can separate the book and movie, it'll be a great movie.

1. Sweeney Todd - The film is just bloody funny, and Johnny Depp is dead sexy. I got totally obsessed with it and the soundtrack.
2. Tropic Thunder - omg, I love this movie. Everyone was just hilarious in their roles, and in roles within roles, and in their roles disguised as other roles. The fake trailers were great, too.
3. Hellboy II - I liked this one because it has everything I like in a film: fantasy, action, and comedy. I was surprised I liked it since "Pan's Labyrinth" had disturbed me so much.
4. The Dark Knight - This is so not like any superhero movie I've seen. It was disturbing, but it had enough humor to keep it from crossing that too disturbing threshold.
5. Iron Man - This one is just fun. You can tell that it's just a set up for the rest of the series, but that doesn't keep it from being engaging.
6. Hamlet 2 - This is so quirky that it had to make my list. Steve Coogan is a delight. Rock me, rock me, rock me sexy Jesus!
7. Burn After Reading - I really like Coen Brothers films. This one was totally their style, and I was not disappointed.
8. Baby Mama - Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are magically (and deliciously) funny together. This was a good match for them.
9. Kung Fu Panda - Jack Black, 'nough said. Not as endearing as "Ratatouille", but easily one of the best animated film of 2008.
10. Wall-E: Same as with "Kung Fu Panda": not as endearing as "Ratatouille", but easily one of the best animated film of 2008.

compares the corporate and the artist life. it's about being yourself and truthful to your desires. teaches you what to avoid when you are in a relationship.
3. wanted
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0493464/
i would compare-it to the idea of fight club, of a guy who becomes more than a corporate junkie. liked how it twisted the bullet idea from the matrix (literally).
4. quantum of solace
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0830515/
with all the criticism, i like the new james bond. this one had a great scene, where he must pretend he is another person ("get in the car"), and dealt with it flawlessly jawdropping.
5. taken
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0936501/
a bodyguard's daughter is kidnaped and sold as a sex slave. liked how the paternal instinct kicked in, how would you do anything for your daughter, going against the world to save her.
6. prince caspian
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499448/
much better than the first narnia, this one had a very great story and action. really liked the battle tactics, the part where they tear down the ground beneath them.
7. never back down

stroke a chord within me, because i do kickboxing as a hobby. it's about how when you have a fighter's reputation, you're forced to fight just because you're the perceived best.
8. secrets of the furious five
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1287845/
very cute and entertaining "bonus" movie to kung fu panda. shows their childhood, what made them become the great furious five. i would even say it's better than the original kung fu panda movie.
9. wall-e
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0910970/
i liked the idea better than the animation. how we'll trash earth so bad that we'll begin living in space, sitting on a moving chair all day and being obese because of it. paradoxically, robots get to have all the fun!
10. cheung gong 7 hou
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0940709/
shows the struggle of a poor chinese laborer to make his child happy. very funny and totally ridiculous scenes in it, like when he makes plans on how would it be at school, and what actually happens when he gets there with the cute flubbery alien.

Acting, directing, writing: everything it could get right, it did. It had a villain whose genius was actually terrifying - you could really believe that he could (almost) get a whole city to destroy itself. Just a very smart movie that also happens to be hugely entertaining.
2. Mongol
Great film. It tells the story of young Genghis Khan going from a child with nothing to the uniter of the Mongols. During the film, you think it's this amazing historical epic with some of the most exciting action sequences seen in long time. After a while, you think back and talk to people who saw it, and you realize that despite the cinematically awesome action, it actually never lets you forget that violence has a cost.
3. Frozen River
Indie film about women who desperately need the money who plan to sneak immigrants into the US from Canada via a Native American reservation. It sounds like a preachy film, but it's not. It's a bare-bones look at inividuals and relationships and also has plenty of suspense.
4. Forbidden Kingdom. Jackie Chan and Jet Li in the best martial arts sequences in any film in years. Oh yeah, and a really nice story about a kid who finds his way (not nearly as cutesy or saccharine as it sounds), plus great cinematography and a cool mythic/epic plotline.
5. Slumdog Millionaire. Great storyline, great directing. It's a really fun twist on a rags to riches story.
6. Iron Man. We got to see Robert Downey Jr. act like a bastard with a heart of gold (or a battery), saw Gwyneth Paltrow classily call someone trash, and Terence Howard look like he is barely resisting the temptation to slap Robert Downey. What's not to love?
7. Persepolis. Animated version of the graphic novels about a smart and funny girl growing up in Iran and later Europe. If you haven't seen this little film, it's really worth it. See what happens when a politically radical girl from a politically repressive state starts meeting bohemian types - not what you expect!
8. Kung Fu Panda. Second best martial arts film of the year -- seriously, the action scenes combined the best of the traditions of Kung Fu films and animation. Great and memorable characters, and a touching yet non-preachy story.
9. Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. Gorgeously shot story about a bunch of badass kids who take down a corrupt kingdom. There may also be something about religion or something, too.
10. My Name is Bruce. Bruce Campbell (from Evil Dead!) mocks himself and his rep hilariously.

2. Iron Man. This IS a conventional superhero movie. A popcorn flick but a whole lot of fun.
3. Quantum of Solace. If you didn't like Casino Royale, you won't like this one either. This is a new Bond for a new generation, and he's (and his context) are very different than the previous Bonds. However, as a fan who likes the changes, this movie blew me away. He has a new sense of continuity and consequence.
4. Get Smart
Very funny and worth homage to the original TV series.
5. Cloverfield
A throwback to the monster movies of my childhood. Think of it as a disaster movie more than a horror movie, and you'll get a better sense of what they were trying to achieve.
6. Wall-E
Fun movie with gorgeous animation. The movie trailers lead you to believe that most of it takes place on earth, but that's not the case.
7. Speed Racer
This is a live action cartoon. While I can understand why a lot of people won't care for it, I loved it. The races follow their own set of physics, but follow the feel of the original cartoon pretty well.
8. No Country for Old Men
I hated this movie when I saw it. The narrative is disjointed, the setting is bleak, the acting is restrained. Then I kept thinking and talking about it for two months afterwards. I have no doubt it'll be featured in film schools for years to come.
9. The Tale of Despereaux
Thoroughly enjoyable, beautiful animation. Mainly for kids but enjoyable by all.
10. ???
I'm expecting my number ten to be one of these movies. Of course, they're Oscar bait.
a) The Wrestler
b) The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
c) Doubt

1. In Bruges - I notice no one else has mentioned this yet, but I felt it had the best performances of the year. It's a funny and intimate film. i couldn't believe how much I enjoyed Colin Farrell's performance.
2. Speed Racer - I expected to totally hate it, but after watching it on Blu-ray, I'm furious at myself for not seeing it in theaters. I had a smile on my face the entire time
3. The Dark Knight - Enters the exclusive club of sequels better than their predecessors. Heath Ledger was of course incredible, but I felt the second half was not quite as good as it could have been.
4. Pineapple Express - Absolutely hilarious. James Franco played my favorite stoner character possibly ever.
5. WALL-E - Pixar is just amazing. A beautiful movie that was easily the cutest movie I've seen all year.
6. Iron Man - A solid superhero film made awesome by Robert Downey Jr.
7. Cloverfield - I went in with low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised by how much destruction was put on screen. This style is going to be copied a lot in the coming years.
8. Quantum of Solace - Maybe not quite as good as Casino Royale, but I still enjoyed it thoroughly.
9. Burn After Reading - Takes a while to get funny, but the ending make up for it. Brad Pitt's character was hilarious.
10. Tropic Thunder - Kinda disappointing, as I felt it was trying too hard. Will get kicked off my list after I see more movies that came out this year.
Haven't seen:
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
The Bank Job
Role Models
Man on Wire
The Wrestler
Slumdog Millionaire
Doubt
Milk
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
I could continue, but I think that's enough.

While I was always a big fan of Daren Aronofsky I never really considered him a top shelf director. His visual style is second to none but his choice of films seemed to be based mainly on what he could do visually. This film shocked me because of the stark difference between his other films. It’s one of the best movies i’ve ever seen and so far it’s only film I’ve seen this year that I want to see again in the theaters.
2. Wall.E
If the rest of the movie after the first 50 minutes was as good as the first 50 minutes Wall.E would easily be #1 on my list. The last 2/3 are still very good but they don’t even come close to the first 50 minutes. The storytelling in the first third is so perfect. One thing that stands out about Wall.E is how it really seemed like an experience, and not just a movie.
3. Vicky Cristina Barcelona
I went into this movie not expecting to like it but I ended up loving it. With the exception of the horrible narrator everything was really good. I thought all the actors were used to perfection and the writing was great. This is the best Woody Allen film since Deconstructing Henry
4. Revolutionary Road
I’m not a Sam Mendes fan but this film was really well made. The acting was great from everyone, especially Kate Winslet. It’s kind of like a serious, better version of American Beauty.
5. Milk
Milk really surprised me. I find that Gus Van Sant makes either extremely artsy films or extremely sappy mainstream dramas. I assumed that Milk would fall into the latter category. It didn’t which made me very happy. I liked how to me it seemed like it was about a guy who happened to be gay and it wasn’t a film about a gay guy.
6. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
I had extremely high expectations for this movie. I thought it was going to be the best of the year and it wasn’t. I thought David Fincher did a great job and creating a magical movie experience. The CGI was amazing and the actors were good. Another great thing about this movie was that young Cate Blanchett (at the ages of 5, 10 & 15) looked exactly like each different actress and like Cate. I’ve also wished for a movie with both Cate Blanchett and Tilda Swinden and they were both in this, just not together.
7. Slumdog Millionaire
I enjoyed this movie but was really surprised when people started telling me it was their pick of the year. I liked it but didn’t love it.
8. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
I really wasn’t expecting much from this movie. However I enjoyed it more than every other Judd Apatow except the 40 Year Old Virgin. I love it when in movie they say something and then it cuts to a montage of that thing. That happens like 5 times in this movie.
9. The Dark Knight
I like the Dark Knight but didn’t love it. It had a lot of problems that I won’t get into here. On the scale of Batman films it’s number 3.
10. Iron Man
Iron Man was really enjoyable. I had a lot of fun watching it. If this wasn’t such a weak year for movies it probably wouldn’t be in my top 10.

2. Juno - this is something that could happen, I did enjoy it
3. Wall-E - Lets face it, who doesn't enjoy a cuddly robot!
4. Iron Man - Must see Super hero movie
5. The Dark Night - No 'splainin needed
6. Kung Fu Panda - What can I say? I'm a sucker for cute Animations!
7. Quantam of Solice - Good movie, nothing Super exciting
8. Jumper - crazy but nice to watch!
9. Wanted - I liked it, it had a story for one thing, great action!
10. Tropic Thunder - Yes I saw this movie in the Cinema, funny in some ways, but they tried to hard.

10. Get Smart
This modern update of a classic comedy series got mixed reviews, but in my mind, they nailed this. They decided to make a spy movie that was funny instead of a full-on parody, which would have turned into Austin Powers. Anne Hathaway makes a great Agent 99, and the chemistry between her and Steve Carell is fun to watch.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PK7RSEzP9Q
9. Iron Man
Great performance by Robert Downey Jr., great action, good movie. Not high cinema, but a lot of fun moments.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhgzIM-9lfA
8. The Dark Knight
Enough's been said about Heath Leger's performance, so I'll focus on the other actors. Aaron Eckhart has perfected the good guy/bad guy role, and Gary Oldman melts so seamlessly into his performance that you forget it's him. The story line's also pretty impressive, takes a lot of risks, is very dark and does not resolve anything really at the end.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ab2Ut87-ESM
7.Wall-E
An animated movie with little-to-no dialogue that still actually makes sense. And it's Pixar, who haven't done a bad movie yet.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UblUO0LjPUg
6. Tropic Thunder
Controversial, startlingly funny send-up of Hollywood.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pxOzSpUXtg
5. Milk
Sean Penn seamlessly melds into the persona of Harvey Milk. Those who knew Milk and worked on the set of the movie said it was such a true likeness, it scared them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unu-9vM9VZw
4.The Wrestler
I haven't seen this one yet but I've seen some great reviews of it, and am going on those to add it to my list. Former wrestler Mick Foley reviewed it for Slate, and if it gets his approval as realistic and gritty, then it also gets mine.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pb4KvxzJkb0
3. Repo: The Genetic Opera
Sorta like a Rocky Horror for the new torture-porn generation. Also, any time I get to hear Anthony Stewart Head (aka Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) sing it's a good day.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TxpiDYFPM4
2.. "W"
A biopic about polarizing President George W. Bush directed by Oliver Stone. Even if it's uneven at times, Brolin puts in a great performance, and the historic nature of the film makes it a must-have for my list.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPXuSoOtKbo
1. Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog
The most creative and innovative indie film produced this year, during the writer's strike, exclusively for the web. Catchy tunes, some great performances, and Joss Whedon's trademark mix of side-splitting laughter and literally gut-wrenching drama.

My list will be the first 10 movies that I saw in 2008 that come to my head.
The Dark Knight
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DM6EOrO2_CU
I usually don't get all giddy for super hero movies, but this one had the right amount of hype that I had to check it out. I thoroughly enjoyed the action and the acting, I can see why everybody thinks it's the best movie of the year, and maybe it deserves that, I just don't think there was enough in it for it to deserve the amount of attention it got. If anything it churned out lots of creative youtube parodies.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1X6RQLZtoA
There Will Be Blood
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ml2Ae2SIXac
Although it was released in 2007, it was released in the USA in January '08 (according to IMDB-http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0469494/) So I will include it in this list. I enjoyed this movie in theaters, but if I was watching it at home I would have fallen asleep. Long periods of time where nothing happens, but that's what you get from a film that spends 2 hours to develop the main character. I thought Daniel Day Lewis was absolutely fantastic, he could spend 2hrs bowling and I would enjoy the movie.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJ1X7-9AbLQ
Wall-E
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5e16U8UsT4I
I enjoy most Pixar films and this one was great. I haven't read anything about it online but I assume everybody has made the connection with the Short Circuit Movie, why didn't they just call Wall-E "Johnny 5"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrknFzkvJBM
Kung Fu Panda
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RR4TIYEAmIk
Predictable, not as good as Wall-E
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BgyhHBoz50
Even though it hurt so bad to watch, it is hard to not include my ol' pal Indiana Jones into this list, It was one of the movies I saw in 2008, and honestly the only one I ran out to watch on opening day, if I had a whip and fedora I would have dressed up for this one...Anyway, if we get rid of the gophers, the monkeys, the nuke and Shia Lebouf the movie wasn't that bad. I think South Park summed it up best when they aired the infamous "rape" episode - http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/187269/
ugh..to clean your palate here is the Last Crusade trailer.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYNTV61FeAs
Hancock
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xDXGOR8cSo
This Movie was dumb, I wanted my 2hrs back.
Quantum of Solace
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1klscL-tFGU
Bare in mind, I was not in the most fit mental condition when I watched this, I got easily confused and really didn't know what was going on...I didn't even know who the bad guy was half the time. I love James Bond movies and I loved the first Daniel Craig one, but I felt very let down by this one, not to mention dizzy.
Tropic Thunder
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pxOzSpUXtg
This movie was fun and original! Not much else to say about it, I thought each of the actors did a good job and did not get bored throughout.
Hmmm... drawing a blank here, I haven't been much of a movie follower/fan the past few years, I am big on documentaries and pretty much see all the new ones that come out. Here are a few from 2008 that I recommend...
Religulous
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdkyLrDpaUg
Atheist eye candy, even though it wasn't about Atheism, Bill Maher says over and over that he doesn't believe in NO GOD, that he simply "doesn't know." As a big fan of Bill Maher I appreciated his attempt at taking on religion in documentary form. Great moments, my favourite is his Scientology as shown below.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kz4q7e9vQ58
I.O.U.S.A.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBo2xQIWHiM
This movie will blow your mind, pretty much breaks down much of the reasons why exactly we are in the middle of a financial crisis. Educational, which means its going to be dry and boring to those used to crazy blockbusters, but its important sometimes to understand this type of stuff. Here is a 30 Minutes mini-version of the film.

1. "In Bruges" - This movie was NOT talked about much and it was by far, the best movie of 2008. It was quirky, off-beat, and very unpredictable. Some of the funniest quotes of any movie ever. A must-see.
http://christophechristiaens.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/in-bruges1.jpg
2. "Under the Same Moon" - Another great film that wasn't talked about much. Its about a boy who sneaks accross the border into the US looking for his mother. Very touching.
http://www.wildaboutmovies.com/images_5/UnderTheSameMoonPoster.jpg
3. "Iron Man" - I was leary going into this movie...thought, "Here we go...another action super hero movie". I was pleasantly surprised. Great humor, lots of action. I enjoyed the personality of the main character and the dynamic relationship between him and his assistant.
http://www.etonline.com/media/photo/2008/05/47571/400_ironman_080501_paramount.jpg
4. "Twilight" - This movie has a reputation for being geared toward teenage girls. I believe this is just because of the lead male actor. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson had great chemistry together. I'm a sucker for vamp flicks. I appreciated how they didn't go overboard with the "vamp" qualities.
http://backseatcuddler.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/twilight-movie-poster.jpg
5. "Role Models" - This was hilarious! Definately not for everyone....wouldn't recommend this if you can't appreciate potty humor.
http://www.collider.com/uploads/imageGallery/Role_Models/role_models_movie_image_paul_rudd__seann_william_scott_and_christopher_mintz-plasse.jpg
6. "Bucket List" - A feel good flick if you're older. The cast drew me to the movie, but the storyline was a bit cheesy. Still fun.
http://www.iwatchstuff.com/2007/10/30/bucket-list-poster.jpg
7. "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" - Kind of a depressing comedy. I was rolling on the ground in a couple scenes. We had a very active and participitory audience which probably made the movie more funny than it was.
http://thecia.com.au/reviews/f/images/forgetting-sarah-marshall-poster-0.jpg
8. "Appaloosa" - Filled my Western craving for the year. Unconvention. It was no 3:10 to Yuma, but worth a Friday night rental.
http://bullets-and-beer.com/covers/Appaloosa.jpg
9. "Made of Honor" - Fulfills your chick-flick viewing obligations. If she makes you rent something, hopefully it will be this one. Grit your teeth...you can make it through.
http://www.iwatchstuff.com/2007/11/14/made-of-honor-poster.jpg
10. "The Happening" - So bad it was good....not good enough to make any other position except #10. Had to include a horror film. M Night needs to retire!

2. Wall-E. Something about Pixar just draws me in. Plus I love how crisp and clean the animation looks. Plus the story and development weren't half bad
3. Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Hilarious movie. I could watch this ten times over and not get bored. Plus it created controversy because it had the word 'Porno' in the title. Ohhh look out!
4. Iron Man. I thought this was a great film and the casting of Downy Jr. was excellent (although I thought it would be disastorous). Plus the effects were awesome
5. Wanted. I know not many people liked this movie but I thought it was great for an action movie. The story was definitely interesting and something unique.
6. In Bruges. A dark comedy, which is always an A+ in my book. Plus Colin Farrell was excellent
7. Burn After Reading. With the Coen brothers directing and a cast full of all stars, this movies was bound to be good. Plus there were some unexpected twists I never saw coming!
8. Role Models. Another hilarious movie much like Zack and Miri. The "chemistry" between Seann William Scott and Paul Rudd really made this movie. Plus the two children add topping to a cake.
9. Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Another one of those movies just like Role Models and Zack and Miri. It has you laughing the whole way through, plus you get to see some naked women.
10. Get Smart. I went to this movie expecting some cheesy remake. But I came out very happy and surprised. Steve Carell definitely redeemed himself from Evan Almighty and really made this film enjoyable.
There are also a pletheroa of movies I have not seen yet, but this is it so far.

1. Speed Racer - Reminded me of the nights spent up watching the cartoon with a psychedelic spin on it.

I don't even think I saw 10 films in 2008, so I'll do what I know: 1.

1. The Dark Knight Because it was the best movie of the year.

10 Best movies of 2008 have to be : 1.

1) Religious 2) Black & White 3) The Universe of Keith Haring 4) Dear Zachary 5) War Made Easy 6) A Thousand Years of Prayers 7) The Killing of John Lennon 8) Quid Pro Quo 9) Sisterhood of Traveling Pants Two 10) Wall.E. (Though totally different from the next) Each one of these films has moved me in such a way that, I've expanded my way of thinking about other cultures, relationships & life in general. These particular films were smart & enlightening at the very least. (all except WallE...it was just damn cute!) Happy Holidays!

1. Milk Sean Penn's portrayal of Harvey Milk, the first openly elected gay official, is both touching and brave.

1. Wall-e. All heart, all geek. Superb non-use of dialog ;) 2.

3. Forgetting Sarah Marshall - An absolutely hilarious movie
4. Quantum of Solace - Not the best Bond movie, but still very solid

I feel many answers coming to this one. As a passionate film student, please take the time to read mine. Thanks :-) 1.

If 'best' is defined as the films that grossed the most, then the list is as follows: 1.

I only based this on movies I actually saw the past year. I'm going to see "Slumdog Millionaire" tomorrow, so that might alter my list, but I don't know. Also, I counted "Sweeney Todd" because others had, it was released close enough to be considered a 2008 film, and I love it.

1. the dark knight http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/
the psychology of the character is fantastic. endure, they'll gonna hate you for what you do, but that's the purpose of batman. oscar for ledger all the way.
2. vicky cristina barcelona
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0497465/
compares the corporate and the artist life. it's about being yourself and truthful to your desires. teaches you what to avoid when you are in a relationship.
3. wanted
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0493464/
i would compare-it to the idea of fight club, of a guy who becomes more than a corporate junkie. liked how it twisted the bullet idea from the matrix (literally).
4. quantum of solace
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0830515/
with all the criticism, i like the new james bond. this one had a great scene, where he must pretend he is another person ("get in the car"), and dealt with it flawlessly jawdropping.
5. taken
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0936501/
a bodyguard's daughter is kidnaped and sold as a sex slave. liked how the paternal instinct kicked in, how would you do anything for your daughter, going against the world to save her.
6. prince caspian
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499448/
much better than the first narnia, this one had a very great story and action. really liked the battle tactics, the part where they tear down the ground beneath them.
7. never back down
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1023111/
stroke a chord within me, because i do kickboxing as a hobby. it's about how when you have a fighter's reputation, you're forced to fight just because you're the perceived best.
8. secrets of the furious five
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1287845/
very cute and entertaining "bonus" movie to kung fu panda. shows their childhood, what made them become the great furious five. i would even say it's better than the original kung fu panda movie.
9. wall-e
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0910970/
i liked the idea better than the animation. how we'll trash earth so bad that we'll begin living in space, sitting on a moving chair all day and being obese because of it. paradoxically, robots get to have all the fun!
10. cheung gong 7 hou
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0940709/
shows the struggle of a poor chinese laborer to make his child happy. very funny and totally ridiculous scenes in it, like when he makes plans on how would it be at school, and what actually happens when he gets there with the cute flubbery alien.

1. The Dark Knight.

1. The Dark Knight. It's more of a crime noir style than a conventional superhero movie. Solid performance by all involved. I was apprehensive when seeing this movie because of the hype, but was completely hooked after fifteen minutes. 2.
Of course, they're Oscar bait.
a) The Wrestler
b) The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
c) Doubt

This is hard since a few of the films I expect to be on my list JUST came out, or haven't come out yet, period. But I'll do this anyway.

1. The Wrestler While I was always a big fan of Daren Aronofsky I never really considered him a top shelf director.

1. Bucket List - Just have to love this movie, won't ever happen in RL but it was nice to see 2.

Here are my 10 favorite movies of 2008. I've chosen not to put them in any order because they are so very different that it's hard to compare some of them to each other. I loved each of these for different reasons, and cannot truly select the "best" from the list. 10.

I'm trying to think if I even saw 10 movies in 2008, The Numbers, has a list of the top grossing, so there is your official list. - http://www.the-numbers.com/market/movies2008.php My list will be the first 10 movies that I saw in 2008 that come to my head.
I.O.U.S.A.

Here are a wide variety of films to consider from comedies, to chick flicks. Its a diverse bunch. I didn't see many of the films that I know would have made the list like "Doubt", "Australia", and "The Dark Knight". 1. "In Bruges" - This movie was NOT talked about much and it was by far, the best movie of 2008. It was quirky, off-beat, and very unpredictable. Some of the funniest quotes of any movie ever. A must-see.

2. "Under the Same Moon" - Another great film that wasn't talked about much. Its about a boy who sneaks accross the border into the US looking for his mother. Very touching.

3. "Iron Man" - I was leary going into this movie...thought, "Here we go...another action super hero movie". I was pleasantly surprised. Great humor, lots of action. I enjoyed the personality of the main character and the dynamic relationship between him and his assistant.

5. "Role Models" - This was hilarious! Definately not for everyone....wouldn't recommend this if you can't appreciate potty humor.

6. "Bucket List" - A feel good flick if you're older. The cast drew me to the movie, but the storyline was a bit cheesy. Still fun.

7. "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" - Kind of a depressing comedy. I was rolling on the ground in a couple scenes. We had a very active and participitory audience which probably made the movie more funny than it was.

8. "Appaloosa" - Filled my Western craving for the year. Unconvention. It was no 3:10 to Yuma, but worth a Friday night rental.

9. "Made of Honor" - Fulfills your chick-flick viewing obligations. If she makes you rent something, hopefully it will be this one. Grit your teeth...you can make it through.

10. "The Happening" - So bad it was good....not good enough to make any other position except #10. Had to include a horror film. M Night needs to retire!

1. The Dark Knight - It definitely lived up to the hype and expectations. So dark and action packed I am not sure how one couldn't like this. 2.
