First of all, Batman is the greatest superhero ever. Just had to get that out of the way, but in the movie, Batman had already come to terms with the fact that he was never going to be with Rachel, it just wasn't going to work out. You also see that Batman acknowledges that Harvey Dent is the face of justice in Gotham that he can never be, because you have to become a monster to catch monsters. He even goes so far as to take the blame for the people the Harvey Dent killed to keep Dent with a clean slate. Batman NEEDS Harvey Dent to stay alive, otherwise it sets him back again. Cheers!
