A Deepness in the Sky -- Vernor Vinge
Would be a completely awesome Sci-Fi movie... trilogy maybe. The previous book in that series is pretty amazing, too.

Bruce Willis might do as Pham Nuwen ... needs to be someone who can look old and unassuming, yet turn around and be surprisingly athletic and authoritative.

Summer Glau could probably fit the robotic Anne Reynolt perfectly.

I've always liked Jeremy Irons as a villain ... he could do Podmaster Nau.

Zachary Quinto (Sylar from Heroes) would probably be good as Ezr Vihn.

Qiwi Linsolet would need two different characters since she ages considerably during the storyline. Maybe Freida Pinto (from "Slumdog Millionaire") could do the non-child version. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rGZNjNVT_sQ/SLZRDRI4q-I/AAAAAAAAC0A/3x3cwH6ynlE/s320/Photo_Click.jpg

Great answers everyone. I really thought this one was just a tad bit more fleshed out though. Thanks for answering.
The Thief of Always! This has been my favorite book for years and years..according to IMDB, its something thats in the works right now, but its been that way for a few years now so I think the project died.
The story is all about a lonely young boy who has a strange creature show up at his window one night and then take him off to a strange place called 'Holiday House', where you experience all four seasons each day, and theres all kinds of wonderful things to eat and pass the time. But, as time goes on, the main character discovers that there's much more to the house than meets the eye, and there's actually plenty of evil in the house that he needs to destroy and escape from.
As for who would star, I'm not too familiar with child actors, so it's hard to say; I think the strange creature that leads the young boy to the Holiday House should be played by Alan Cumming; he did such a great job at becoming the 'creature' as Nightcrawler in X-Men 2, I'm sure he could do the same for this film.
Here's a more in depth rundown of the story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thief_of_Always

There are a few books I've read recently that I would like to see movies of, but I don't think anyone else would be interested.
First choice: Surely You're Joking Mr. Feynman! This book is just a bunch of anecdotes about a Nobel prize winning physicist, but Feynman seems like such a character that I would love to see more. I don't know who would be able to play this type of funny, but serious, yet eccentric character.
Second choice: The Art of Intrusion/Detection by Kevin Mitnick. If you know anything about him you know why a movie based on these books would be awesome. Plenty of action movies make up cool stories of computer crimes, but nothing compares to real life intrusions performed by a master.

* Book of Ecclesiastes from the Bible. It would be extremely difficult to make a narrative out of it as it is wisdom literature, no story...
* My ghostwritten teenager thriller about two sisters in a post-apocalypse nuclear winter world. The book that hasn't sold one copy yet :-(.

"The Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson. It's the story of the Chicago World's Fair intertwined with the tale of one of the worst serial killers who performed his murders within blocks of the Fair's location.
It's a great book, eloquently written, and I am sure it will become a feature film at some point. I see Paul Giamatti playing Mr. Burnham and Garrett Hedlund playing a compelling Dr. Holmes. If you haven't read the book it's truly a must read.

I would like to see Return of the Native, by Thomas Hardy. I liked reading the book so much and I am surprised that it hasn't been filmed that I know of or it wasn't famous like some of his other works. The female character is so strong and she is such an interesting character. There is a certain truth to it.
Starring in it I think could maybe be unknowns. Or that actress that found out that her father is really in that rock band. I don't remember her name right now. Aerosmith. I don't think she's quite right but maybe.
