Josh Harris (the person the documentary is about) is one of Jason's best friends and Ondi Timoner (the director) is also a good friend of his. Because of those facts he is in the film in different parts.

Ah, I too had been wondering about it from his tweets on the film. He sounded like more than a fan ..he sounded close to it. I just thought I'd missed the key tweet early-on that spelled it out. :)

As the NYTimes mentions, I'm in the film a bunch since I'm one of [Josh Harris]]'s best friends over the last... umm.... 13 years?

Here's the article, but they spelled Jason's last name wrong (Calcanis instead of Calacanis) http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/26/movies/26josh.html

From the article:
Jason Calcanis (sic), a Web entrepreneur, is a longtime friend of Mr. Harris and a kind of a narrator in the film. He stopped by the table at the cafe and chimed in: “Here you had the C.E.O. of a public company that was trying to raise money and the C.E.O. was showing up dressed as a clown. But Josh knew what was coming.”
