My general rule for sequels is: if they're going to make a sequel, they should then make it into a trilogy. A story has a beginning, a middle, and an end. If there were only two movies, it would be like there was a beginning, and an end.
In conclusion, if it has the original writer/director, thumbs up to the sequel. Otherwise, no.

"Broderick couldn't be Ferris Bueller again, even if he wanted to, and even though he looks considerably younger than his years. There have been sequel suggestions made, all rejected. "I can't play young rebellious guys anymore," he sighed."

i don't think a sequel would be such a good thing. I think I'd rather see a sequel to Risky Business or some other "OK, even, good but not perfect" movie like FBDO.
"Joe -vs- another volcano" i'd watch.
"Keep standing by me" would be a similar abomination.
part of the beauty of FBDO is that his whole life is ahead. and it's going to work out. you know he's in love with sloane, you know she's in love with him. but you know they are not going to ever be married. because you've been ferris (or sloane) and you know how it worked out. they don't.

Ferris Bueller 2: Another Day Off -- should they make the sequel or not?
We watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off during the Mahalo team's retreat to Disneyland and it was glorious. I love that film... really I do!
Today I found this nugget from Cinematical (one of the blogs I named and founded... :-)
"Titled Ferris Bueller 2: Another Day Off, the proposed sequel takes place on the eve of Bueller's fortieth birthday. Spears, a major Hughes enthusiast, calls Rapier's script "a blast. I read it in a single afternoon and was impressed with the care Rapier took with the original story and characters. The story has the same feel, humor and pace as the 1986 movie, which should please hard-core Ferris fans." The storyline finds Ferris 20 years older and living off a hugely successful self-help career, a la Tony Robbins. His best friend Cameron (played in '86 by Alan Ruck) manages the business. Turning 40 shakes Ferris up, and he decides to take the day off, "sending Cameron, his business associates and family into a frenzy." In addition to Ferris and Cameron, most of the supporting characters are in the script. Sloane Peterson (played in '86 by Mia Sara) is now "a Hollywood star going through a rough marriage." Ferris' sister Jeannie (Jennifer Grey) is now married to the guy from the police station (Charlie Sheen). Rooney (Jeffrey Jones) doesn't work for the school anymore, but has devoted his life to getting revenge on Ferris (What's he going to do at this point, murder him?). Even Ben Stein's character is in there, now working at an airline."

As great as the original movie was, I would not like to see a sequel so long after the original film. Would the sequel have the same writer as the first one? If so, then a sequel could be a great idea. My general rule for sequels is: if they're going to make a sequel, they should then make it into a trilogy. A story has a beginning, a middle, and an end. May I just vote Please God, no! Sequels can be appropriate when helping an overlaying plot arc, but how many times is it justified to open the nostalgia can o'worms and defile the memory of something I loved from childhood just to conceal that they are bereft of ideas!? I'm saying no to this & the subsequent off-broadway musical they're sure to develop! Save Ferris.

Matthew Broderick has stated clearly to the Toronto Star that he wouldn't want to reprise the role: "Broderick couldn't be Ferris Bueller again, even if he wanted to, and even though he looks considerably younger than his years. There have been sequel suggestions made, all rejected. "I can't play young rebellious guys anymore," he sighed."

When you say you watched it "during the Mahalo team's retreat to Disneyland" do you mean that you rented out the main street cinema and watched it? (please tell me no) or was it in the van on the way to/from disneyland? i don't think a sequel would be such a good thing. I think I'd rather see a sequel to Risky Business or some other "OK, even, good but not perfect" movie like FBDO.
"Joe -vs- another volcano" i'd watch.

I think this time around Ferris Bueller should take Jason's Tesla for the day :)
