Not that I agree with the premise behind the screen play... it's just good special effects!

The Geologist says, "We are dealing with very determined stuff." Plan one, try to cool the lava and create a crust. It is a miracle. Hundreds of firefighter, water drops, and a concrete barrier manage to freeze the lava flow. They have accomplished the impossible.
New plan, knock a new 20 story building (accross from the Beverly center) down by precision explosion and create a rubble dam, in 20 minutes, and divert the lava to the ocean

Well, although all the above scenes of destruction are really good, for me the 2 best filmed scenes of destruction on film are the following. The reason being that these two scenes are something that can happen to any of us... they're not a world-wide blow-up kind of disaster that could only happen in the movies.
