Hello,
The same reason the passanger seat is in the right. The driver must have the best view when he is trying to pass by the car in front of his. When you have a car in front , and you want to pass by, you must make sure you will not meet any cars comming from the other side. You can't be sure if you are in the right side, because this means you have to move the entire car to the other side of the middle line.This means you will expose the driver and the passenger at the same time.
