Which monitor is best for Home usage ? Widescreen LCD or 4:3 LCD monitor ?

I have connected two monitors to my graphics card and I have enabled the Dual View option to work in both monitors simultaneously. One monitor is a widescreen and the other is a standard 4:3 LCD monitor. When I watch movies, the Widescreen is great. But when I browse through the internet, the pages are compressed to the middle part of the screen.

Which one do you think is the best ? Widescreen or 4:3 ? What are the Pros and Cons of both monitors.

Which do you recommend to use, if I am going to use only one in the future ?

I made the switch to wide screen a couple of years ago with some trepidation, but I have really been enjoying it ever since. While I was unsure about making the switch at first, since doing it I have only encountered pros for the wide screen format and have yet to find any drawbacks (I use a large enough screen that the web page formatting isn't an issue for me).

You can fit two windows/documents side by side:
This is a huge improvement if you ever find yourself working in one application while trying to look at an instruction document or web page in another window. It's also great if you do a lot of writing or blogging and would like to refer to source material on one side of the screen while writing on the other.

* * * Reduces Neck Strain:
I find that with tall monitors, I need to tilt my head up or down to read the top and bottom of the screen comfortably. I find this less comfortable than leaving my head stationary and letting my eyes scan the width of a wider screen. Even when dealing with extremely wide or dual monitors, I prefer to turn my head from left to right rather than tilt it up and down if I am stuck in front of the computer for several hours.

* * * Better for Gaming:
I find that any any sort of first person shooter, a wider field of view is more helpful as it is more difficult for people to sneak up on me. In most games, the threat isn't going to come at an extreme angle from the sky above you, so having wider rather than taller is more useful.

* * * Better for TweetDeck:
If you use TweetDeck for Twitter, having a very wide screen lets you take in a lot more information at once. It formats information into columns, with the most recent information at the top of each column. Wide screens allow for more columns, which significantly reduces the amount of scrolling you must do in order to follow all of your streams.

* * * Better for Movies:
Wide screens let you view films in a format much closer to what the directors envisioned with the recorded the movie.

* * * More Natural:
The shape of the human face allows people to take in more visual information from the sides than above and below without moving the neck. Your brow ridge prevents you from looking up very far unless you tilt your head back, and your cheeks prevent you from looking straight down without tilting your head down. You eyes can look quite a ways to either side without moving your head, resulting in a "wide screen" style point of view. I suspect this would mean that our brains are optimized for processing visual input from a "wide" perspective and thus a wide screen might allow you to process more information faster than a regular screen. (Disclaimer: I've got no scientific data to back this up)

* * * Have Your Cake and Eat it Too:
In case you didn't realize it, there are a number of wide screen monitors on the market that let you rotate the screen 90 degrees to easily and instantly go from wide screen to portrait format. This might be a good choice for you, as it lets you use a tall narrow screen for viewing long web pages and then a wide screen for everything else. See the source links for details. I had one of these, and after a few weeks found that I stopped using the portrait mode because I just preferred the wide screen. Perhaps this rotating option would be your best bet as you could have the best of both worlds.

Note that if you use a PC and keep a lot of icons on your desktop, rotating the monitor to switch between portrait and wide screen will rearrange everything. It does an on the fly resolution switch when you rotate the monitor to a new viewing mode, and that can move all of your stuff around to make it fit within the other format. This isn't a big deal if you have a tidy desktop, but it can be annoying if you keep dozens of shortcuts on your desktop and are picky about where they are positioned.

My recommendation is Widescreen LCD.

Why Go Widescreen?

Aside from being the most recent when it comes to home entertainment trends, viewing pleasure is increased at least two-fold. Not only do movies look bigger on these things, computer games and widescreen formatted television channels are viewed better when the television set is a widescreen. Do I need to mention that these beauties themselves look far better than the old squared boxes of television sets we all used to own?

Why Go LCD?

First off, widescreen LCD TVs are less costly in comparison put next to its rival widescreen plasma Televisions . 2nd , though not as great as in the plasma varieties, the picture standard it delivers is still grand and can't be expounded as merely ordinary. Third, the power it consumes per square inch Is less than what is gulped down by a plasma screen and thus less heat is generated. 4th , the screen is not glossy vs the glassy appearance of a plasma screen cutting the reflected light by a massive degree making it easier on the eyes. 5th , LCD technology is capable of going little so your widescreen can be as cute as a couple of inches wide or as huge as the plasma types are made.
For a ton less but without the need to sacrifice quality, a widescreen LCD Television is a smart investment on entertainment.

Using Internet on Widescreen:

The only problem you feel on the 4:3 monitor is internet. This problem can be solved by establishing a good widescreen-supportive resolution on your graphic card. Google Chrome also solves this problem.

The new generation multimedia and the true entertainment experience is Widescreen LCD. Go for it!

I work with a couple of monitors too.

I use this on my 3rd monitor:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1985

It allows you to quickly and easily re-size your browser window to a variety of standard resolutions. This is handy for widescreen using folks because it allows you to quickly position a few different windows at the right size.

I usually have 2-3 windows open monitoring different things (Mahalo being one of them!) and using this addon makes it easy to maximize the space.

Widescreen.

Widescreen has become the defacto standard, you are going to find it hard to find a 4:3 monitor in the local computer store. As more and more people switch to widescreen page design will move to take advantage of it. Generally you aren't losing any vertical resolution with a widescreen monitor anyways, you are simply getting more on the sides, so you can leave your browser in less than full screen and put your twitter client or music play in the extra space on the sides.

Widescreen was my choice when I upgraded recently. If web pages are in the middle third of the screen, try using the "change zoom level" in Windows Internet Explorer, which is located in the lower right hand corner in the bottom bar of the browser. A quick click on the 100% increases the total screen size. The entire viewing area of the webpage will be enlarged. I keep mine on 125% and that seems to work well for me.

When you choose a widescreen LCD monitor, select one with low power consumption and high resolution for the best picture. It's great to hear that you are working efficiently with two monitors. I, too, have a standard 4:3 side by side of the widescreen. Now that I have learned how to manipulate webpage viewing, I will be replacing my 4:3 soon. One of the pros is cost, as a good LCD widescreen will be at least twice as expensive as a standard monitor.

I still prefer wide screen over 4:3. It feel bigger space, display more contents.
Although widescreen LCD monitor comes with different aspect (not just 16:9), but they more or less the same coz the software can easily fit into your screen size, the only odd things are those wide format DVD movies.

Anyway i strongly suggest a widescreen LCD Monitor.
