It's possible, but it requires a lot of hacking that I wouldn't recommend. First you'd have to splice a VGA cable and hook it up to the right connections, then you have figure out the exact voltage to supply to the screen. The last part shouldn't be too hard, but trust me unless you're really experienced you'll be running into a ton of headache.

Is there any hope to reuse an imac screen?
my dads imac recently died because of a faulty mother board and power supply. he gave it to me to dissect and i did. i got all the way to removing the screen from the rest of the computer and i was hoping i could use it independently of the rest of the machine. is there enough computing power for it to run? would i have to get/make a new power supply? could i use it as a second monitor for our other computer?

can you supply more details? have you done this before? i don't mind a head-ache because if its too much pain, i just throw it out.

Unfortunately it was a buddy of mine who did this and he only showed me the finished product, but I'll try and look for some details online.

I'm interested, too. I know that the life on this old iMac is limited, but if I can continue using the screen and buy a Mac mini, I'd probably consider that the best strategy to upgrade in the next year or so.
