How to fix a Dell LCD monitor?

i have a 3-4 year old Dell LCD monitor for my PC and now it is not working. What happens is when i turn the monitor on it will work for about 2 - 3 seconds then go black. The power light stays on and stays green (green = on, yellow = standby)

Gererally, if the monitor works sort of intermittently, or it comes on and turns off after a few seconds or minutes, you gotta replace the backlight or inverter, if that's the issue. It's not terribly hard to do, and the cost of the part depends on the make/model. You can search internet. I got parts from ScreenCountry http://www.screencountry.com were helpful.
Good Luck!

The LCD pixels are "lit" from behind by fluorescent lamps.

It sounds as though the lamps are malfunctioning. Unfortunately, repair is likely to cost you nearly as much as a new monitor. Sounds like it's time to look for a deal on a new monitor.

Sorry.

I'm going to agree here... very hard to fix and shipping for the monitor to and from a repair shop might be $30-50 each way.

Time to upgrade I fear.

I agree. One suggestion re: finding a new monitor is to go to the electronics or computer store and ask them about open-box specials. One of my good friends and I went into an office-supply store and she walked out with a very-nice, flat-screen LCD for about 75 percent of the actual retail price. It did not come with a box, but the instruction manual was included, as was the cable, stand, and all other necessary components. She also got the standard warranty, despite not having the box.
