Why did CDO bond raters think they could mix new wine with old wine and not corrupt the mix?

Subprime mortgages being the old wine.

Hope mixed with the kind of bone-brainedness that put us all in this mess in the first place!

But really, there have always been a variety of mortgage products. This is a stretch, but it's not that terribly different, is it?

I always reject "stall fries with fresh fries". Most people don't ask for a new batch of fries. Why weren't the investors asking for a new batch of fries?
