Whatever happened to Internet Banking where you can instantly and easily check whether the money has gone through or not?

I don't know where you are banking but the service is alive and well - at least at the four banks I use. One of them is an independent in a town of only 2500 population.
My debit card is on BOA. I can buy gas two blocks from my home and by the time I get home - two minutes, the transaction is already in my account and on the screen and Valero already has my money.
