4,600 people work at NUMMI.

Toyota today has over-capacity in many markets (this happens with many other auto manufactures as well), so they may not relocate their production lines at all. I wouldn't be surprise if the production stops for a couple months on those models, until the current capacity streams out.

Taxes in California may have actually worsen the situation, because the plant only made money in 1992.

• If the plant has been losing money for 17 years than it seems obvious Toyota would shut the plant down, unless it was under some contractual obligation to remain open. However, it does not seem likely that a company could be forced to lose money legally.

they already assemble the Tacoma and Corolla at other plants so they would just shift production to those facilities. no big deal for them. if they close Nummi all it really means is adding another shift at a plant here and there.
