With my personality, I wished I had a boss that listened to me and, every so often, patted me on the back.
I appreciated a boss who had enthusiasm about what we were doing.
I especially appreciated a boss that brought the team together and let the TEAM decide what to do (with some direction from management). I had one boss who allowed the team to decide how we got the the goal that management had set. It was great and we were really creative, innovated, and made the company a boat-load of money.

I wish I had a manager that is also a leader in that if offers a vision, is able to share it and convince others of it, make others have their own vision and make the connection between theirs and his.
I also wish he were able to constantly challenge people in his team toward improving the service to customers of the team (be them internal or external) so as to prevent us from being entangled in dysfunctional processes.

I wish we had leaders who led by example and were the hardest working, most knowledgeable people in the business. It seems like the higher people get on the corporate ladder, the less they have to work. A hard working, intelligent, fair boss is all I ask for.
