Some areas are more affordable then others. I've lived in Culver City for years, and though large patches of the place have become more expensive of late, if you stick to the north part of town - close to the border with Palms - there are definitely apartments and condos to be had for a price that's reasonable (at least by West LA standards). Try between Jefferson and Venice, and between Sepulveda and Overland. Pretty decent neighborhoods, close to downtown Culver City, the airport, Howard Hughes Center and, perhaps most importantly, Tito's Tacos. You could probably find some competitively priced rentals.
