I cannot find the exact answer you seek. A possible candidate would be Wyoming Senator Craig Thomas, a three-term conservative Republican who stayed clear of the Washington limelight and political catfights. Thomas was hospitalized with pneumonia just before the 2006 election and had to cancel his last campaign stops. He nonetheless won with 70 percent of the vote, monitoring the election from his hospital bed. Two days after the election, Thomas announced that he had just been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. He died the following June. During the 2006 election campaign, he raised $1,699,967. It is possible the $237,272 was actually collected after the election date. In any case, it is a lot of money considering his opponent Dale F Groutage (D) raised only $139,815 total. On a side note: In 1989, Dick Cheney, who occupied Wyoming's only seat in the House of Representatives, resigned to become Secretary of Defense. Thomas became the Republican candidate to succeed Cheney and won the April 1989 special election.

Another candidate might be Paul Coverdell, a 2-term GOP Senator from Georgia, who died 4 years into his term of office on July 18, 2000 from a cerebral hemorrhage. He was replaced by appointee Zell Miller who raised $$2,684,218 to win a 2000 special election. His opponents raised about $1 million.

I must appologize I know the answer I should have worded my question a little differently. can you guess. I am just want people to know and understand somethings. You have done great reseach even though it is the wrong Senator you just made me aware of things I might want to look into. PA State Senator James Rhoades died as a result of a car accident. He was completely at fault but they put the blame on someone elso who is imprisoned. I have the physical evidence to clear him and show what really happened including the government cover-up but have had difficulty getting it out. Thank you, your answer is great not the one but I'm might want to look into these.
