The problem is we haven't decided if the money is for college, a down payment on his first house, or for his retirement (the longer the money has to grow the more it will be...)
I'm sure we do sacrifice to put that money in there but since we do it at the first pay check of every month, it doesn't feel like a sacrifice. It's more like a habit.
I am certain that my husband and I will help our son through college, but we're not going to tell him that. We expect him to get good enough grades in high school that he can get a full ride scholarship. From time to time I'm sure we'd help him with his rent, or books, but I don't think we'll pay for everything.

Nope! I don't have, or want, kids, so there's no need for me to save up to send *my* kids to college someday. However: I have four sibs, so it's quite likely that I'll have nieces and nephews someday. I'd really like it if they could get some help from their dear, doddering old aunt (me) when they go off to college.
So, when I get out of college and start working full time (i.e. have a "real" income), I'll start putting something aside for future nieces and nephews.

Currently as a student, my main priority is to finish my education and get a good job. However, I am constantly saving for things that I will need to get in the future. A house, a car and possibly children. However, it is quite far off for me at the moment and will be a while before I think of getting any.
