Are storage units being overrun with demand caused by the increase in foreclosures?

Are people abandoning their possession after foreclosure?

Is there a surge in furniture donations to chartible organizations?

Is the furniture being put in a pod and shipped to a location where storage is cheaper and more available?

I would have thought so, but Jeff at Paradise Self Storage, 808-877-1522 says that although they are getting some new business because of the economy, they are actually losing a lot more because people are removing their stuff because they can't afford to store. He said that people are moving their stuff to their garages and leaving their cars in the driveway or on the street. I found this to be surprising.
I tried to check with a charity to see if they have seen an increase in furniture donations, unfortunately, they have recently stopped accepting furniture donations.
