There are plenty of MMO's that do harsh death penalties. If you really want to go all the way, try EVE Online. It's crazy the stories that pop up from that game, with banks, corporations that deal in tens of thousands of real money's worth of in game dollars, money being laundered, stolen, people being assassinated.

Does an MMO exist where there is danger and consequence from character death, both in PVE and PVP?
I remember the 'old days' of Everquest, where there was real (well real virtual) danger in venturing into dungeons and outside cities. Loot could be lost in some cases. In some ways I miss this, as I find the modern MMO's emphasis on low death penalty somewhat routine.
Any new or upcoming MMO's putting an emphasis again on danger?
