#MLB so why does the National League have 2 more teams than the AL? Planned Expansion?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

There is certainly no planned expansion. If anything there might be contraction of smaller market teams if the economy deigns it necessary.

The difference in the number of teams has actually been a recent thing. As of 1960 (just before the "Expansion Era") the leagues had an equal number of teams. Many AL teams have moved cities, but there simply have been more teams added to the NL.

Since 1961, the NL has added the NY Mets, Houston Astros, Montreal Expos, San Diego Padres, Florida Marlins, Colorado Rockies, and Arizona Diamondbacks through expansion. And the Milawukee Brewers moved from the AL to NL during the 1994 realignment.

While, in the same time period the AL has only added the LA Angels, Washington Senators (now Texas Rangers), Seattle Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays.

because bud selig is the worst commish in history. he used to own the brewers but had to relinquish control to ascend to the commish throne. so he let his daughter owned team shift leagues. why? because a small market team like milwaukee had a better chance of getting past st.louis and the mets to get to the world series than the yankees, redsox and better run small market teams like the twins.

now becaus ehte coimmish, the same guy who was at the helm during the entire steroids bllom and is still in power has reduced the playoff chances for other clubs to advance his own biased agenda. now, wild card not counting , fans of NLC have a 1 in 6 chance of seeing their team inthe post season while those of the AL W have a 1 in 4 chance. the difference is huge and never woulda happened if the owner of the brewers hadn't bought himself the commisionership.
